The Yankees were able to stop their three game skid with a 5-1 victory over the Seattle Mariners. Chien-Ming Wang started for the Yanks and was great again. He allowed just 1 run on 3 hits and 2 walks in 6 IP, he also struck out 5 along the way. The only run came on a RBI ground out by Raul Ibanez in the 6th. The victory improved Wang's record to 6-0.
The bullpen was flawless tonight, Kyle Farnsworth pitched a scoreless 7th, striking out two of the three batters he faced. Joba Chamberlain pitched a scoreless 8th, but still can't figure out how Ichiro hit that slider. And Mariano Rivera came in for the 9th and retired the side in order.
If only every night could go as smoothly as tonight did for this pitching staff.
MARINERS PITCHING
The Yankees scored their first run in the 1st on an RBI single by Hideki Matsui that drove in Derek Jeter who had reached on an error. They added two more in the 2nd on a 2-run double by Melky Cabrera that drove in Morgan Ensberg and Alberto Gonzalez.
The Yanks added two insurance runs in the 8th on an RBI single by Morgan Ensberg and a Jose Molina sac fly. On a warmer night Molina's sac fly might have left the yard for a grand slam.
MARINERS HITTING
I was sitting in section 6 in the upper deck, here's the view I had. I actually really liked these seats.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Chien-Ming Wang (6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K)
HONORABLE MENTION: The Bullpen (3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K)
Post Game Notes: Jose Veras was called up before the game to replace Hughes on the roster. ... Phil Hughes also learned today that he in nearsighted and is going to need glasses. This may have been hurting his control. I guess we will find out how much some time in July.
The Yankees look to win two in a row tomorrow when Mike Mussina faces off against Felix Hernandez. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m., and the game can be seen on YES and heard on WCBS 880.

I see you wrote that Wang's only run came on an RBI double. Didn't Ichiro score on a ground-out to first??
Yea you're right, I wrote this when I got home very late last night and I was tired and got confused when I looked at the box score and Ibanez was 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
I was kinda drunk when I wrote this too, lol.
