6/28 Minor League Report

We are lucky enough to have a SWB report from BigGuy tonight. He won't be doing these all the time by when he does I will post them. Thanks BG for the great contributions.

(AAA) Scranton (48-35) lost to Buffalo 2-1: Box Score - Recap

This game was suspended from Friday night due to fog with the score tied at 1 in the bottom of the 9th inning. Buffalo won the game 2-1 in the 10th.

PITCHING: Jeff Karstens pitched very well once again going 7 innings and allowing 1 run on 4 hits. He had 4 strikeouts and 1 walk (intentional). Karstens left the game trailing 1-0... Heath Phillips finished out the game and gave up the winning run in the bottom of the 10th on a single, balk, sac bunt by Morgan Ensberg and RBI single. Phillips got the loss (2-4).

OFFENSE: SWB trailed in this game 1-0 until the 9th inning. A double by Matt Carson and rbi double that was lost in the fog by J D Closser tied the game up at 1-1 before being suspended. The Yanks stranded 2 runners in the top of the 10th inning.

(AAA) Scranton (48-36) lost to Buffalo 3-0: Box Score - Recap
In the regularly scheduled game Buffalo defeated SWB shutting them out 3-0. To make matters worse there was a 48 minute rain delay.

PITCHING: Jason Jones was called up from AA Trenton and made his AAA debut. Jones was 8-3 at AA Trenton with a 2.45 ERA. He pitched a very good game. Jones went 5 scoreless innings allowing just 1 hit, striking out 7, and allowing 1 walk.

J B Cox came on to pitch the 6th and had a very rare bad game. He gave up a 2-rbi single after he loaded the bases on a single, walk and intentional walk. That made the score Buffalo 2-0. Cox took the loss (2-2). ... Billy Traber relieved Cox and got the final out of the 6th. Traber gave up a run in the 7th inning on a solo homer to make it 3-0 Buffalo. ... Scott Strickland pitched a scoreless 8th inning.

OFFENSE: The SWB offense continues to be pitiful. They had 1 hit on a J D Closser double. Brett Gardner had 2 walks and stole 2 bases (32). In these 2 games the SWB offense was 1 for 16 with RISP.

NOTES: Alfredo Aceves was to get this start but was placed on the DL with a groin injury. ... Bernie Castro was activated off the DL. ... Ross Ohlendorf and Kei Igawa were added to the roster. ... Alan Horne gets the start Sunday. ... Former Yankee Morgan Ensberg struck out for Buffalo with the bases loaded.
