Several media outlets are reporting the Hideki Matsui may be headed to the DL due to an inflamed left knee.
"It's always a possibility," Joe Girardi said. "You don't want it to come to that, but if we feel it's in the best interest of him and the club, that's something we'll talk about."
This would be a loss, but not a huge one. Matsui has been great so far this year, but they have Johnny Damon, Melky Cabrera, Bobby Abreu, and the recently called up Justin Christian. So you would hope those four could hold down the fort while Matsui recovers from his knee injury.
The Yanks could also call up Brett Gardner if they felt he would get enough playing time. This is the move I think the Yankees should make if Matsui goes on the DL, but I've been hoping the Gardner gets called up for a while now, so that should be no surprise.
With all that has happened to this team so far this year, this newest setback is no reason to panic. As long as he's not out for more than two weeks this team should be fine. Then again, he may DH tomorrow and this whole post could be pointless, so you never know. Let's just hope for the best.
