Damon took batting practice on the field yesterday, the first such workout he has had since spraining his left shoulder on July 4 trying to make a catch up against the wall in left field.Regardless of when he comes back, whether it's tomorrow or in a week, it's great that he's recovered as quickly as he did.
He took 19 swings and hit with surprising authority. Two balls went for home runs, one off the facing of the upper deck.
"I'm ready," said Damon, who is eligible to be activated off the disabled list today. "I want to play. It's in their court. There's nothing I can do or say. It's not up to me. They mentioned to me that I wasn't playing tomorrow."
Girardi claimed no decision was made.
"We'll see how he feels tomorrow. We'll have to make some decisions," he said. "I need to talk to (general manager Brian Cashman) about it."
Expect Damon to DH for a little while before playing the field.
