The Pirates have their eye on the Yankees' Ross Ohlendorf, if the Yanks become buyers for players like Damaso Marte or Xavier Nady.Ohlendorf has done well as a starter since being demoted to AAA Scranton, and that may be what has gotten the Pirates interested. In three games he's 1-0 with a 2.92, and in 12.1 IP he has 15 strike outs and only 3 walks. Pretty good numbers, but if they could get Nady then Cashman should get a deal done centered around Ohlendorf.
I don't think they need Marte as much as they need a solid right-handed bat, but I'd probably make that trade too.
The article also said the Yankees are among many teams monitoring Freddy Garcia, and that Alex Rodriguez is lobbying for the Yanks to sign him.

If we could get Nady for Ohlendorf, I'd pull the trigger. It would take more than that though, as I don't think a few good starts by Ohlendorf in the minors should be enough to convince the Pirates that he's all that good (yet).
Anyway, though, if we could get Nady, (and perhaps somehow throw Melky in the package), I'd do it in a heartbeat. Nady could play LF or CF, with Gardner holding the fort until Damon came back. Major upgrade for the offense.
Yes, it will take more than just Ohlendorf, but if they're interested in him they may be able to get a deal done with a package centered around Ohlendorf.
