Please Get Over Yourself You Delusional Punk

The punk I speak of is Red Sox closer Jonathan Paplebon, and it turns out that this arrogant douchebag thinks he deserves to close tomorrow.

From Peter Abraham:

“If I was managing the team, I would close. … But I’m not managing the team,” he said today.

Sam Borden and some of the other writers there asked Papelbon whether Mariano Rivera had earned the right to close.

“I think we both earned that right.” he said

After acknowleding Rivera’s status, he said he earned the right to close by winning the World Series last season.

Talk about delusional. It’s Yankee Stadium, he’s having a Cy Young year, Mariano closes. Period, end of story.

Delusional is right (so right I had to use it in the title). This guy is a piece of crap and proves it more and more every time he opens his mouth. What the hell does last year's World Series have to do with this year's All-Star game?

Besides the fact that the game is in Yankee Stadium, and like Peter said Rivera is having a Cy Young season, all you really have to do is look at their numbers so far this year to see who deserves to close:

Rivera: 4-3, 23 for 23 in save opportunities, 1.06 ERA, 0.63 WHIP, 384 ERA+, 50 strikeouts and only 4 walks in 42.1 innings pitched.

Papelbon: 3-3, 28 for 32 in save opportunities, 2.43 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, 178 ERA+, 50 strikeouts and 7 walks in 40.2 innings pitched.

Looks like Mo in a landslide.

Not in our House, Papelblown is not even in the same league as Mo. He pissed me off when he said he deserved Rivera kind of money. Four blown saves says it all in my book.

The thing that gets me the most is that Mo has been doing it for 14 years, this is just Papelbon's 4th season and he acts as if he's on Mo's level.

When he becomes one of the greatest closers of all-time he can start comparing himself to THE greatest. Until then, shut the **** up.

Paplebon is a a-hole.

He'll probably won't to do that stupid Irish jig too.

I guess he's never heard the phrase that when you win, act like you've done it before. I don't recall ever seeing footage of Mickey Mantle doing a stupid dance after winning the World Series.

Just shows you how much more class the Yankee organization instills into their players.

Oh man, as if we really needed even more blatant evidence that Papelbon was a mega-tool. This guy, beyond being delusional, couldn't be more full of himself.

Heck, it could be argued that Joe Nathan deserves it just as much as Papelbon does - half of Papelboner's ERA, half the number of blown saves, and no losses vs. 3 losses.

You know, some players are cocky without being jerks, and I know it's going to sound like I'm being biased, but Joba is an example of a young guy who's cocky but not a dick about it. Joba would NEVER say something like what Papelbon said with regard to one of the best players at his position in all of baseball history.

Papelbon reminds me of the dick in high school who would knock the books out of your hand and laugh as he walked away. Then ask you to do his homework for him after he takes your lunch money. He's Biff Tannen.

Oh well. At least he didn't steal any laptops, as far as I know.

You're absolutely right about Joba, he's cocky, but he's not a jerk, exactly.

No the laptop theft is left to Mr. Buchholz.

It's ironic how y'all overlook what Papelbon said to the Boston Globe after his media session. Something that none of the New York media cared to point out.

No, Ian, it's not "ironic", what that article illustrates is Papelbon putting his foot in his mouth. The guy is a clown. Just becuase you realize you said something selfish and are trying damage control doesn't mean you aren't selfish and didn't say a buch of stupid things.

More evidence the guy is an effing clown?

The following is from Peter Abraham:

"Yankees clubhouse manager Rob Cucuzza said how impressed he was with the Red Sox players. A few of them asked to see Thurman Munson’s locker. “Those guys and Terry (Francona) have been incredibly respectful,” he said. “I didn’t really know them before this and they’ve been great.”

Then we have Jonathan Papelbon, who is wearing a sleeveless blue t-shirt with a drawing of a hand making an obscene gesture. Yes, that obscene gesture.

Classy."

Great attire for the All Star game.
