Not much bothers me more than losing to the Red Sox, but when you have an opportunity to sweep them in Fenway and fail it bothers me a little bit more. Yes, it was a successful series overall, but last night's game annoyed me.

Ponson was terrible, the offense was a no show, and couldn't come through with the big hit when they needed it. And newly acquired Richie Sexson and Xavier Nady both look lost at the plate. Besides that I have nothing else to say about this loss.

Jeter is 6th in MLB and 3rd in the AL in GIDP.

Agreed, Greg ... but they did win two of three in Boston, looking very good in their wins. Joba was awesome and Pettitte was great. And in the game they lost, Girardi managed to not exhaust his bullpen, so that the best bullpen in baseball is fresh for the next series. I'm very happy coming out of this series like that.

I know, and as a whole, the series was a success. I'm just annoyed that Ponson pitched the way he did.

I also have no problem with the way Girardi managed last night's game, so I agree with you there as well.

Jeter had a pathetic game last night....The team really needs him to get out of Cruise-Control and start to get hot. He really sucked big time last night, I was very dissapointed. Hopefully he will have a big series and get hot, Yanks aren't off until Aug 14th.

He really does need to start hitting, he's been nothing but an average player all season, and I'm starting to wonder if it's more than just a bad year.

I guess it's being greedy asking for the sweep, but last night's game was a disappointment, espcially when you wait all day for the game and can't wait to sit down and watch.

I had a feeling Ponson's luck would run out sooner or later. But then to not hit with RISP and no outs?? Inconsistancy again.

The positive to take out of all of this is they're back in the thick of things. Tampa Bay is about to tumble and it will be Boston and New York in the race.

Let's hope they don't have a meltdown against the O's.

Yea, they gotta continue to win series, and sweep teams they should sweep.

I agree with the comments emphasizing the positives. Last night stunk, definitely, and Jeter has struggled too much at the plate (though he's picked up his average of late). The GIDPs are terrible. Yet I wasn't surprised that Ponson struggled. He's been avoiding trouble for quite a while and has a bad history against Boston. All that came to a head last night. Kudos to Giese for eating the last four innings and not letting the game get totally out of hand which, in recent years, seems to occur now and then--Boston winning 20-2 instead of 9-2. He ate innings but also minimized the humiliation.

Two of three in Boston was good, Joba was tremendous, Marte showed immediate worth, and the Yanks poured it on in Game 2. They need to hammer Baltimore.

Would you be willing to add me to your Yankees Links, Greg? If so, I'd greatly appreciate it.
