After being dominated the last two nights the Yankees' bats finally showed up today, pounding out 9 runs on 11 hits to lead the Yanks to a 9 -4 win. The Yankees are now 50-44.

Darrell Rasner started off very shaky, allowing four runs in the first, but was able to settle down, pitch five, and pick up the win, his first win since June 18th against the Padres. Rasner may have been able to get out of the first with less damage done, but Bobby Abreu is still afraid of padded walls. In 5 innings Rasner allowed 4 runs (3 earned) on 7 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 6.

The Yankees' bullpen was solid once again; Edwar Ramirez, Jose Veras, Kyle Farnsworth and Latroy Hawkins threw a scoreless inning each. The line for the pen today was 4 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K.

JAYS PITCHING

As I mentioned earlier the Yankees offense came to life today, scoring 9 runs on 11 hits. They got on the board very early when Derek Jeter led off the game with a solo HR, his 5th of the year, and 200th of his career.

Trailing 4-1, the Yankees scored four in the top of the 2nd to take a 5-4 lead. Brett Gardner picked up a big RBI single in the inning, and Alex Rodriguez had the big hit of the inning, a two-run single with two out and the bases loaded to give the Yanks the lead.

They added three more in the 3rd on a two-run single by Gardner and a RBI single by Jeter.

The Yanks ninth run of the day came on a solo homer for A-Rod, his team-leading 19th of the year, and 537th of his career, passing the great Mickey Mantle on the all-time list.

Jeter, A-Rod, Melky, and Gardner each had two hits on the day. And the bottom third of the order, which has been struggling, did a good job today going 4-for-10, with 3 RBI, 5 R, and 2 BB.
