Luckily for me I had a softball game today so I was unable to watch this stinker of a game. And from what I've read about the game, it was even worse than the box score looks.

Andy Pettitte got roughed up by a very weak Jays' lineup. In 6 innings he allowed four runs (all in the 2nd) on 8 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 6. Apparently Bobby Abreu made another bad play in right field, his third in two days, which didn't help Pettitte.

Dan Giese and David Robertson both pitched a scoreless inning in relief. Robertson struck out two batters.

JAYS PITCHING

This offense really has been pathetic, and today was no different. The only run the Yanks could score came in the 9th on a solo homer by Jason Giambi, his 19th of the year. In the 32 plate appearances the Yankees had against A.J. Burnett, 25 of them were over in three pitches or fewer. Way to grind out those at bats guys.

JAYS OFFENSE

PLAYER OF THE GAME: A.J. Burnett (8.1 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 8 K)

HONORABLE MENTION: Marco Scutaro (1-for-4, HR, 3 RBI, R)

GOATS OF THE GAME: Who else? The Yankees hitters... all of them.

The Yankees now head into the All-Star break with a record of 50-45, and they remain in 3rd place in the AL East, 6 games behind the first place Red Sox. They also trail the Rays by 5.5 in the Wild Card.

The Yankees resume play on Friday against the Oakland A's at The Stadium. Mike Mussina will go for the Yanks, and he will face Joe Blanton of the A's.

For all you 'Sliding Into Home' readers; CF, Greg Cohen was 4-7 with 3 RBI's in his softball game yesterday, against the tough side-winding Korean.
