I figure the Yankees will need 94 wins or so to get into the postseason this year. So to get there the Yankees will have to win 30 of their final 41 ballgames, that's a .731 winning %, and that would be a minor miracle.
The only way I could see this happening is if Phil Hughes pitches like he did last September, Joba comes back and pitches like he was, and most importantly the team starts to hit like we all expected them to. Yes, I understand that these are all HUGE ifs.
Can they do it? I highly doubt it, they've been far too inconsistent, and haven't shown anything that would make us believe they can. But just so everyone knows, this is the goal - 30-11.

at most i think we'll win 27. remember 2 years ago the red sox weren't good and finished third, and then last year they were the best. i think that will be the case with us. next year i think we'll have a great starting rotation( CC, Wang, Joba, Pettitte/Moose, Hughes), with a better, more consistant offense( Teixeira?) i think we will win it all next year in the first year of the new stadium. just looking at that possible rotation, it gets you excited. they all can win 14-15+ games
I'm going to go ahead and steal Barack Obama's slogan... YES WE CAN.
Ehhh why not? Anything is possible.
GOONIES NEVER SAY DIE!
Dan,
I've been thinking about that a lot lately. Things may not be working out so great this year, but things really look promising next year.
But for right now the goal is 30 wins. I'll say this, if they do make a miraculous run it will be a lot of fun to watch.
I mostly agree Greg. Yesterday on my blog, www.thepennantchase.blogspot.com (cheap self promotion) I predicted they would need 92 and play .667 baseball the rest of the season. Either way, this weekend vs. the Royals we will need a sweep.
Joe, Don't worry about the self promotion, we all gotta do it. I just added you to my blogroll by the way.
Yes, a sweep is a must. They can't lose stupid games to bad teams anymore. They gave up that right a long time ago.
