The SWB Yankees were defeated by Rochester (Twins) by a score of 9-3. SWB's magic number to clinch the North Division is down to 1, with 4 games remaining in the regular season. Their record is 86-54.
PITCHING: Victor Zambrano just up from AA Trenton to replace Alredo Aceves, got the start for the Yankees. Aceves was 2-0 with a 0.74 ERA at Trenton. At the AAA level for the Rockies AAA affiliate earlier in the year he was 0-6 with a 9.45 ERA. Zambrano was roughed up and got the loss (0-1).
Zambrano gave up 2 runs to tie the score at 2 in the 2nd inning on a single, rbi triple and rbi sac fly. He also walked 2 in the inning, but they were stranded. ... Rochester added 1 run in the 3rd to take a 3-2 lead on an infield hit off Zambrano's glove and RBI double. ... Rochester made it 4-2 in the 4th on a double and rbi triple that Melky Cabrera dropped and could have been scored a 3-base error. ... Zambrano started the 5th inning allowing a solo homer, walk, double and 2-rbi double making the score 7-2, before being relieved by Scott Patterson. Zambrano allowed at least 2 hits in each inning. Zambrano's line: 4.0 IP, 8 runs-earned, 11 hits, 2 K's--3 walks. 87 pitches--50 strikes.
Scott Patterson relieved Zambrano in the 5th with a runner on 2nd and no outs and gave up a 2-run homer to make the Rochester lead 9-2 before retiring the side. ... Patterson pitched a scoreless 7th. ... Scott Strickland came on to pitch the 7th. ... Steven Jackson threw a perfect 8th inning.
OFFENSE: SWB broke out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning. They loaded the bases on a single by Justin Christian, walk to Melky Cabrera and Juan Miranda HBP. Shelley Duncan followed with a RBI sac fly. 2 Rochester infield errors scored the 2nd run of the inning with Nick Green getting the RBI. ... SWB picked up a run in 6th on a Nick Green walk, Eric Duncan single, wild pitch and Chad Moeller rbi sac fly to make the score 9-3. Melky Cabrera was 0-3 with a walk and run scored. He's batting .333.
