8/4 Minor League Report

The SWB Yankees defeated the Pawtucket Red Sox 3-2 to regain 1st place for the first time since June 19th. They trailed by 6 games at one point. The Yanks record is 72-46 on the year.

PITCHING: Chase Wright made his 2nd start of the year at SWB. Wright was perfect his first 3 innings and had a no-hitter going until 1 out in the 6th inning. Wright then gave up a single, double, and 2 rbi triple to give Pawtucket a 2-0 lead. Wright came out to start the 7th and gave up a leadoff walk, HBP, and sac bunt, before being relieved. Wright's line: 6.1 IP, 2 runs, 4 hits, 4 K's---1 walk. ERA 1.46. 89 pitches--63 strikes. Wright had 10 groundouts--5 flyouts. Wright did not allow a fly ball until the 6th inning.

Phil Coke relieved Wright in the 7th with runners on 2nd & 3rd and 1 out. Coke got a strikeout and groundout on a nice play at 3rd base by Eric Duncan to get out of the jam. ... Coke pitched a perfect 8th inning, picking up 2 more strikeouts. Coke was very good picking up 3 K's in 1.2 innings. ... Steven Jackson pitched a scoreless 9th inning, getting 2 K's, and giving up a single. Jackson got the win (2-0).

OFFENSE: Brett Gardner led off the SWB 1st inning with a single. That was the only hit allowed by PawSox starter David Pauley until the 7th inning. Trailing 2-0 in the 7th, Juan Miranda singled, and Shelley Duncan, fresh off the DL, hit a 2-run homer to tie the score at 2. ... SWB stranded the bases loaded in the 8th inning. ... The Yanks won the game in the 9th when they loaded the bases on a single by Chris Stewart, and walks to Cody Ransom and Brett Gardner. Bernie Castro then singled to score Ransom with walk off win. SWB 3-2.

NOTES: Chris Britton and Shelley Duncan added to SWB's roster. ... Bartolo Colon goes for Pawtucket against Kei Igawa on Tuesday.
