Goose Gossage knows pennant races, and Yankee fans may not like his take on this year's American League East: He says that Boston is in a better position to win after trading slugger Manny Ramirez.
"I've always thought that Manny was a dog," Gossage said Friday. On Thursday, Boston sent the longtime Yankee killer to Los Angeles, receiving Pittsburgh left fielder Jason Bay in a three-team deal. "People say that Manny is a Hall of Famer, but I don't know that he's such a shoo-in. He lets in as many runs (with poor defense) as he contributes."
Like his idea of keeping Joba in the pen, I disagree with Goose when it comes to Manny. At least when it comes to Manny going to the Hall of Fame, he's in, and he's in on the first ballot.

Manny killed the Yankees everytime they played Boston, we dont know how Bay will to agaisnt them but right knoow it will help the Yankees when they play Boston
Yes, against the Yankees in head-to-head matchups I don't see how this trade won't help the Yankees, but it's the other games the Red Sox play that worry me a little bit. He will improve their team defense, and most likely team chemistry.
I agree with you both, that Ramirez gone should certainly help the Yanks' head-to-head chances. I also think Greg makes good points about team chemistry and defense. Those matter, especially down the stretch. Ramirez rolled around the outfield a couple weeks ago, sliding PAST a fly ball, then stumbling and eventually crawling and ROLLING to and onto the ball, with it stuck under his ass. More than poor defense, that was both hilarious to watch and an absolute disgrace to the team. Plus, Ramirez quit on the team in 2006 and couldn't be trusted to actually put 100% effort into the games this year.
Goose had it half-right, to me. He's right in pegging Ramirez a dog. But I agree with you Greg, the guy's a Hall-of-Famer, flaky quitter or no. His bat's been that great.
