Matsui Getting Closer

From SI.com:
New York Yankees designated hitter and left fielder Hideki Matsui intensified the running program for his injured left knee on Saturday.

Matsui, placed on the 15-day disabled list on June 27, ran 90 feet several times.

"Overall, I ran a little harder today, and I hit a little more today as well," Matsui said. "I didn't have any problems, and I felt pretty good afterwards too. It's another step forward."

He's expected to run the bases soon. That's one of the final steps before playing in minor league rehab games.

"So far, it's been well," Matsui said. "There's no doubt about it, I feel confident now if I keep progressing."
Although it may be coming a little too late, this is good news for the Yanks. When he returns he will only DH. This will mean a lot more time for Damon in the field, and a lot less for Melky.

Hahaha.....whhoooooooooo cares? The inconsistant Yank offense still scores enough to keep them in the game. The Yanks need pitching! Their pitchers have been decimated by injuries. Ive NEVER seen a team revamp their rotation so many damned times because theirs guys keep drooping like flies. If anyone is holding out on hopes of making the playoffs your just being naive to the fact that the team has no chance. Even if they somehow make it, do you really think they can win anything with that rotation? Come on now!

The Angels are embarrassing the Yanks and I fully expect the sweep this afternoon. Its such a shame because the AL East is so damned winable this year!

No I don't think this team can win much with the rotation as it stands right now. And with the way the bullpen has looked since the Farnsworth trade, I'm not too confident in them either.

But I've seen crazier things happen in sports. Plus if I totally gave up this blog wouldn't be fun to produce anymore.

As for Matsui I think his clutch hitting could still be an asset to this team this season. But you're right, it all starts, and ends, with pitching.

You're exactly right about the implications of Matsui's return for Melky, Greg. Melky shouldn't play every day even now. His play this year has shown him to be a good fourth outfielder. His bat just isn't there. He's a mess at the plate--yesterday's game notwithstanding.

The rotation problems have been terrible, no arguing that. That the bullpen has been so abysmal in the last 14 games is really frustrating to me--8.16 ERA, 1.77 WHIP, 11 homers in 46 1/3 IP. Horrible.
