9/12 Minor League Report (Playoff Edition)

We are lucky enough to have a SWB report from BigGuy tonight. He won't be doing these all the time by when he does I will post them. Thanks BG for the great contributions.

(AAA) Scranton-Wilkes Barre (88-56) destroyed Durham 20-2 in game 4 to win the Governors' Cup: Box Score - Recap

The SWB Yankees won the International Leagues' Governor's Cup Championship by pounding the Durham Bulls (Tampa Bay) 20--2. SWB won the series 3-1. They move on to Oklahoma City for the Bricktown Showdown to play one game against the Pacific Coast League Champions on Tuesday. Oklahoma City is playing Sacramento is currently still playing in their PCL Championship series, and the series is tied at a game apiece.

PITCHING: Phil Hughes got the start for the Yankees and once again pitched very well getting the win. His curvebal was filthy. And his fastball was sitting at 90-92 MPH. Hughes line: 5.0 IP, 1 run, 4 hits, 12 K's--4 walks

1st Inning: Scoreless. Hughes picked up 2 strikeouts, but allowed 2 walks and a single to center. Matt Carson thru out the runner at the plate to end the inning. Hughes threw 26 pitches---14 strikes.

2nd Inning: Hughes threw a perfect 2nd striking out the first 2 batters and getting a great diving catch on a sinking liner by Justin Christian in left field. 13 pitches---9 strikes.

3rd Inning: Hughes struck out the side on 16 pitches---11 strikes.

4th Inning: 2 singles and 2 walks with nobody out gave Durham 1 run. Hughes then settled down and struck out the sides giving him 10 K's. thru 4 IP, 81 pitches---48 strikes.

5th Inning: Hughes gave up a single and added 2 more strikeouts for 12 K's thru 5 innings. 97 pitches---58 strikes.

Jonathan Albaladjeo relieved Hughes and threw a scoreless 6th & 7th innings. In the 8th, he gave up a solo homer by Gabriel Martinez that made it 19-2. Albaladejo then loaded the bases with 2 singles and HBP. Zack Kroenke came on to get a strikeout to end the inning. Kroenke also pitched a scoreless 9th inning.

OFFENSE: After playing 4 walk-off games in a row, the SWB offense exploded to pound Durham pitching for 20 runs on 18 hits. 3 Durham errors and 10 walks helped. The Yanks left 21 runners on base.

2nd inning: SWB exploded for 5 runs when Chris Stewart walked, Chris Basak singled and Justin Christian reached on an error to load the bases. Bernie Castro walked to get an RBI. Juan Miranda had a 2-run single. Shelly Duncan walked to reload the bases. Ben Broussard hit a routine DP ball but a throwing error allowed 2 more runs to score giving SWB a 5-0 lead.

3rd Inning: SWB knocked Davis out of the game after he loaded the bases. Eric Duncan and Chris Stewart singled, Chris Basak walked. Justin Christian greeted Jeremy Cummings with a 2-run double. Bernie Castro and Juan Miranda each added RBI singles. Another run scored when Shelly Duncan hit into a DP to give the Yankees a 10-0 lead.

5th Inning; The Yanks added a solo run on a double by Chris Basak and RBI sac fly by Bernie Castro, to make the score SWB 11-1.

6th Inning: SWB exploded for 8 more runs. Key hits, Juan Miranda 3-run homer, Chris Basak 2-run double, Ben Broussard RBI double, and Justin Christian RBI single to give SWB an 19-1 lead.

9th Inning: The Yankees made it an even 20 runs on a Chris Basak RBI single. Yanks 20 Bulls 2.
