Pitching: Ian Kennedy got the start for the Yankees. Kennedy came into the playoffs with a 5-3 record, 2.35 ERA , with opposing battters hitting .203. Pawtucket took a 1-0 lead off Kennedy in the 3rd inning on a walk and 2 singles, with former SWB player Jason Lane getting the RBI. ... In the 4th inning, Jeff Corseletti hit a solo homer to give the Red Sox a 2-0 lead. Kennedy did not allow a hit over his final 3 innings. Kennedy left trailing 2-1 and got the loss Kennedy's line: 7.0 IP, 2 runs, 5 hits, 5 K's--3 walks, 94 pitches--56 strikes, 5 groundouts---11 flyouts.
Zach Kroenke relieved Kennedy to start the 8th inning. Jason Lane once again came back to haunt the Yankees, with a solo homer, giving Pawtucket a 3-1 lead. ... Oneili Perez came on to get the final out of the 8th inning.
OFFENSE: Pawtucket starter Davern Hansack no-hit the Yankees thru 6 innings, picking up 8 strikeouts. The Yankees did manage to score a run in the 5th inning without the benefit of a hit. Nick Green walked, a wild pitch and groundout moved Green to 3rd. vGreen scored on a Chris Stewart RBI groundout. That cut the Sox lead to 2-1. ... Jon Switzer relieved Hansack to start the 7th inning and gave up the first hit of the game for SWB to Ben Broussard. Eric Duncan followed with a double, but the runners were stranded. They were the only 2 hits of the game for SWB. Yankee batters had 12 strikeouts. Melky Cabrera was 0-4, and is 1-8 in the first 2 games.
