Matsui to Have Surgery Before Season Ends

From Peter Abraham:
Hideki Matsui told reporters after the game that once the Yankees are eliminated, he likely would have his knee surgery. But he wants to wait until that point and he hopes to play in another game or two.
With the tragic number down to four it seems that he will be going under the knife sometime next week. He hasn't done much since returning from the DL, hitting 205/.267/.325 with 2 HR, and 11 RBI. After all of his knee problems and his lack of range in the outfield, I can't see him being anything more than the left-handed DH next season.

The Yankees might as well shop around and see if any team would like him. I cannot imagine a team who would make him their starting outfielder, so the NL would have to be excluded. He also has a NTC as well, doesn't he? The only AL teams who may have an interest IMO, would be Seattle, and Kansas City. Maybe Minny or Oakland but not likely.

I honestly believe he's best suited as our left-handed DH.

Remember back with those late 90's teams when they had guys like Chili Davis and Daryl Strawberry on the bench? That's what Matsui can be. A very good bat off the bench. And occasionally he will start. I think that's what this team should try to have happen.

You know guys, I think he might indeed make a good LH DH--but absolutely nothing more. It should be an interesting off season, that's for sure.
