One run on two hits against the worst team in the sport? Not good.
How bad was tonight's game? The highlight of the night was Wilson Betemit's pinch-hit RBI double in the 8th to break up Brandon Morrow's no-hitter.
Morrow does deserve a lot of credit for the game he pitched tonight; he was fantastic, throwing all of his pitches for strikes, and had the Yankees hitters off-balance all night. He had a no-hitter through 7.2 until Betemit's hit, and in the end he threw 7.2 innings, allowing just one run on one hit, while walking three and striking out eight. It looks like Morrow may remain in the Mariners' starting rotation. Oh, by the way, this was Morrow's first start in the major leagues. He had been used as a reliever in his first 100 appearances before tonight.
Andy Pettitte did not pitch well early in the game, allowing three runs on seven hits in the first four innings, but settled down and actually ending up pitching a pretty good game, a game he probably should have won. In seven innings he allowed three runs on seven hits, while walking one and striking out nine. He retired the final 11 batters he faced.
It just keep getting worse and worse for this team, they show a little life, but eventually it always seems to get worse. Boston won again tonight, so their lead in the Wild Card is now up to 8.5 games with just 21 games left of the schedule. Even the most optimistic Yankees fan must be losing hope at this point, I know I am.
But keep watching my friends, in sports anything is possible... I guess.

Boy o boy can Brian Cashman build a team! What a winner! How the great Arod do tonight? I take it he was very cluth as usual.
What a LOSER team led by THE King of Loser's in Arod and the queen of loser's in GM's Betty Cashman.
Maybe they should sign him long-term huh Feinsand you cake eating moron.
This organization is THE laughing stock in ALL professional sports. Way to go Cashman!! Please sign him to an extension you alcoholic, gambling degenerate Steinbrenner boys.
You might need therapy.
Better get used to Cashman, it seems as though the Yankees are going to bring him back.
I don't blame him for this season. He had nothing to do with the injuries which have hurt this team greatly. He also could not have known how bad Kennedy and Hughes would be. Did you? Did I?
This was just one of those Murphy's Law years. Anything that could go wrong, did.

I agree J.C.
I don't think there was anything Cashman could have done to really fix this. And that includes trading for Santana in the off-season. I still don't like the idea of Santana for seven years. One year? Three years? Even four or five years? Fine. Seven? No freakin' way.
does this anon guy come in every game thread to bash cashman?
I think so. I don't really mind it, I just wish the guy or girl would sign a name or something. If he has an opinion that is as strong as it appears to be, why not put your name on it?
Remember our lucky squirrel?
It has moved to another ball park.

We can always learn from Ozzie.
Guys, Its over. Save your energy for next year.

BB,
So it's over, are you still going to watch?
The reason I ask is how does saying it's over change the way you are as a fan?
I was at the bar last night and saw Betemit's double. Thankfully that's the only play of the game I watched. I didn't need anymore reasons to drink last night.
Greg,
Ive been a yankee fan for 35 years.Yes, i'll continue to watch. However, i'm extremely disappointed with the 2008 yankees.
BB
Oh OK, well so am I, very very disappointed.
