This one was a tough one to watch, and if you did, I give you a ton of credit. You are a good fan.
In between two rain delays the Yanks pounded out 19 runs and 20 hits against the still very much hated, Boston Red Sox. I know the game means nothing, and by the sixth inning it was the SWB Yanks vs. the Paw Sox, but I still enjoy watching the Yanks beat Boston. And at least we ended their chances at a division title.
Alfredo Aceves started for the Yanks and wasn't very effective. In four innings he allowed four runs on five hits, including two homers, and walked four. In his first three starts he was able to stay away from walking people, but tonight he did not have that same command - maybe it had something to do with all the rain, maybe it didn't.
Phil Coke relieved Aceves after the second rain delay and gave up his first run as a Yankee. He had gone 11.2 innings without giving up a run before tonight. In two innings he allowed a run on four hits, he didn't walk a batter, and struck out two.
David Robertson picked up the win, his fourth of the season. He pitched two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, walking none, and striking out three.
Wilson Betemit, Robinson Cano, Brett Gardner, Chad Moeller, Xavier Nady and Cody Ransom all had mutli-hit games. Ransom also had a multi-homer game, hitting two solo shots, one in the 4th and one in the 5th. Cano drove in five, and Gardner drove in four to lead the Yankees to the blowout victory.
Bobby Abreu drove in his 100th RBI of the season. That makes it six years in a row that Abreu has driven in 100 runs. The only other players who have driven in 100 RBI or more for the last six seasons are Albert Pujols and Alex Rodriguez.
Derek Jeter left the game in the fourth inning because his hand was still bothering him when he tried to swing. He will sit tomorrow, and there's a good chance we've seen the last of Jeter this year.
