Mariano Rivera closed out the Yankees third win in a row. The save was Mariano's 479th of his career, and he moved past Lee Smith into second place on the all time saves list.

Alfredo Aceves made his second big league start, and once again pitched very well. His only mistake of the game came in the top of the 4th, he walked Orlando Cabrera to leadoff the inning, and then allowed a two-run homer to Dewayne Wise. He did allow several hard hit balls, but they either went foul, were caught. In six innings he allowed two runs on five hits, while walking just one and striking out three.

Like his first start he threw a lot of strikes (60 out of 87 pitches), and attacked the hitters, and didn't walk many.

Phil Coke and Joba Chamberlain provided the bridge to Mariano tonight, and they were both very good. Coke retired the three batters he faced in the 7th, striking out one. And Joba threw a scoreless 8th, allowed a hit and struck out two.

Xavier Nady got the Yankees on the board with a two-run homer off Mark Buehrle in the 2nd.

With the score tied in the 7th the Yankees took the lead for good on a Wilson Betemit ground-rule double. They added their fourth run later in the inning on a Johnny Damon single.

Derek Jeter failed to pickup Yankee Stadium hit #1270, he went 0-for-4; with two strikeouts.

Fans were booing A-Rod tonight for no apparent reason. I understand why fans boo in certain situations, but not tonight. He's not the reason the Yankees aren't going to make the playoffs. Stop booing unless he does something to deserve it.

With tonight's win, the Yankees moved into a tie for third place with the Blue Jays. ... great... But the Red Sox won also, so the Yankees tragic number is down to four.

Greg,

Classy move with your A-Rod mention. The fans need to realize it's not one man's blame to carry, not two or three, it's a team game, and they win and lose as one.

I can understand booing him when he grounds into a double play in the 9th with the bases loaded to cost the team a game, but not for no reason like they did yesterday. Fans must stop booing because they think it's the trendy thing to do.
