Kevin Rozzell from Zell's Pinstripe Blog has a great story about Phil Hughes. It's definitely worth the read. And for those who think he's overrated or whatever, don't worry, the story isn't about pitching.
And now on to the report . . .
Dominican Winter League
- Robinson Cano (Estrellas) went 1-for-3, he's now hitting .267.
- Melky Cabrera (Aguilas) went 1-for-4, he's now hitting .312.
- Abraham Almonte (Escogido) went 1-for-3 with a RBI.
- Ramiro Pena (Culiacan) went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
- Walter Ibarra (Hermosillo) went 0-for-4.
- Jonathan Albaladejo (Mayaguez) picked up his 11th save of the winter. He pitched 1.1 innings and retired all four batters he faced, three on strike outs. He still hasn't allowed an earned run in Puerto Rico.
- Edwar Gonzalez (Lara) went 1-for-2 with a homer, a RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base. He's now hitting .360 with 4 homers and 11 RBI in Venezuela.
- Francisco Cervelli (Lara) went 1-for-3.

I realize it's just winter ball and a small sample size, but is anyone just a bit... discouraged that Cano is only hitting .267 against what's probably AAA pitching or less?
I am too.
Hopefully he's just in a slump.
Here's more info:
75 AB, .267 AVG, .333 OBP, 1 HR, 15 RBI, 7 BB, 7 K, .413 Slug, .747 OPS. Last 10 games: batting .213 with 2 BB, 5 K.
I wonder if it means anything for Melky... but anyways... I love me some Hughes.
