Sherman: Yanks Want Nothing To Do With Sheets

Joel Sherman is reporting this morning that he's hearing from his sources "that the Yankees will have nothing to do with Ben Sheets." They are very concerned with his health issues, mainly because of Sheets' history with back problems. He goes on to say that with A.J. Burnett on the team the Yankees feel thats enough injury-prone pitchers for one starting staff.

Well if they don't want Sheets, I highly doubt Lowe is being signed for 3,4 years. Cashman just said yesterday that he doesn't want to many pitchers on multi year contracts because it locks all the spots up in the rotation. And if that happens there won't be any room for younger pitchers to get a chance.
So I don't see them signing Lowe. If there is no Sheets, Lowe, Pettitte then Hughes is going to get that 5th spot.

I can definately live with Sabathia, Wang, Burnett, Joba, Hughes

I don't think Lowe is a possibility either. The Yankees don't want to sign him long-term. I would be very shocked if Pettitte didn't end up signing.
