Yanks Interested in Freddy Garcia?

From Jon Heyman (hat tip to MLB Trade Rumors):
Free-agent righthander Freddy Garcia is talking to a few teams, including the Yankees, Mets, Rangers and White Sox and is expected to make a deal in coming days. Garcia, 118-77 for his career, was given a clean bill of health after pitching briefly in winter ball.
Last year with the Tigers he went 1-1 with a 4.20 ERA, and struck out 12 and walked 6 in 15 innings pitched.

If they don't end up coming to terms with Pettitte - and it doesn't look like they're going to - Garcia wouldn't be a bad backup plan.

Minor league contract with an invite to camp. Join the rest in the competition for #5.

That's fine by me Mike.

Seems like this guy is always right on the fringe of being able to put something together and something goes wrong. He wouldn't be a bad guy to get on a minor league deal or a cheaper major league deal (2yr, $4M?) and see what he's got.

No chance he takes a minor league deal. I say he goes to the White Sox, Ozzie Guillen loves him.
