Yanks Sign Jason Johnson

According to Peter Abraham, the Yankees have signed right-hander Jason Johnson to a minor league deal. Abraham also said that Joe Girardi said Johnson would compete for the fifth starter.

In 16 games last year with the Dodgers, Johnson went 1-2 with a 5.22 ERA. He struck out 20 and walked 12.

just posted it down in the Mitre thread,

I hope he doesnt win the 5th spot, he'll get rocked like Kennedy last year.

His carrer numbers are 56 wins and 100 losses.

I can't see him winning the job.

side note: how about Lastings Milledge for CF? He's loaded with talent and, I believe, would mature alot given a chance with the Yankees. The Nats have a surplus of outfielders and need starting pitching. How about a deal centered around Ian Kennedy?

Or we can wait a year for A.Jackson, and use Gardner/Melky/Swish in CF, this year. Just throwing another option out there, we probably wont have interest in him anyway.

Dan,

I'd be open to that kind of trade. Milledge does have a ton of raw ability.

I also have no problem if they stick with what they have either. I really don't think center field is as big of an issue as some people do. As long as they have someone out there that can cover a lot of ground I'll be happy.
