Jeter and Posada Discuss The A-Roid Scandal

From Mark Hale:

"You have to give him the benefit of the doubt," Jeter told reporters today at the Yankees' training complex.

"My initial reaction is, let him respond," Jeter said. "Give him the respect to respond to it before you pass judgment."

"Yeah, of course, everybody was shocked by it," Jeter said. "You've got to find out both sides of the story before you make any assessment."

Jorge Posada said today he was surprised by the report but would support Rodriguez.

"I've gotta say Alex is my teammate and is gonna be my friend forever," Posada said. "I'm gonna support him any way I can."

Posada said he sent Rodriguez a text message but has not heard back. Jeter would not say if he has reached out to Rodriguez since the test results were reported.

Both were not concerned with being included in the 104 names on the list of positive tests:

"Why would I worry about me being on the list?" Jeter said.

"I hope not. I think I've done things right," Posada said.

You "hope not"? You "think" you've "done things right"? Well I can't say I feel good about those answers. ... Seriously, those answers from Jorge make me think he tried something and doesn't know if it was illegal. Oh well, moving on...

As far as how it will effect the team, they had this to say:

"It's a lot of questions that's the biggest thing ...," Jeter said. "Besides the initial questions that you get, you can only talk about it so much."

But Posada said it could wear on Rodriguez.

"It's going to be a tough spring training for Alex," Posada said. "But as soon as he talks about it, whatever he is going to do or say, put it behind him as soon as he can."

Well, if one subscribes to the belief that ARod had a false positive, or never actually tested positive and this is all a myth (like Jorge might), then him saying "I hope not" could be him looking at the list like it's a fishing expedition or a McCarthy era type thing. We all know the Mitchell Report was just a witch hunt with shitty journalism, and maybe if he actually believes AROD to be innocent, than any other innocent name can be there as well (in this case his).

Just giving Jorge the benefit of the doubt.

It will be interesting to see of Jeter and the rest of the Yankee players will support AROD this yr. The is no doubt going to be a tough, long road for AROD and he's going to get hammered on the road in every city.
