Old Guard Will Be on Hand to Support A-Rod

Remember this scene from Andy Pettitte's press conference last spring?

In the upcoming days we will see the same thing all over again, this time for Alex Rodriguez. We learned today that Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, Mariano Rivera, and Andy Pettitte will all be on hand at A-Rod's press conference when he arrives in Tampa next week.

Jorge Posada told The Post today that he, Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera and Andy Pettitte want to attend A-Rod's news conference at George M. Steinbrenner Field next week when Rodrigiuez plans to discuss his steroid-tainted past.

As of this afternoon, the Yankees and the Rodriguez camp were still deliberating the size and the scope of a news conference. But if it is done in a formal way, Posada said the players with the longest history with the organization want to attend as a way to show support and solidarity toward Rodriguez.

"We'll be there," Posada said."Obviously, we have to ask Alex if it is OK, but if he says yes, we will go with him. I think it will be the guys who have been here the longest and anyone else that Alex might want."
Good move by the Yanks, this is what they should do.

But why do they have to ask A-Rod's if it's OK?

They don't have much choice, do they?

A. Prima donnas love and need to be the one and only attraction on the stage.

Posada said they need to ask because that's the way you do it. You don't force yourself into someone else's press conference. While there's no way Alex doesn't want them there, it's common courtesy... when you show support for someone and stick up for them, you want to make sure they want the support in the manner that you're offering.

Hate to say it but Derek Jeter is a bad dresser.

I can't help but look at that picture and think "don't take sides against the family." Not that that will stop the press from being ruthless as usual.
