The other (player introductions) press conferences are so much more enjoyable.

Great pic by the way!

No follow up questions? Are they serious?

A-Rod better really open up with his answers, otherwise the media will kill him.

Greg Cohen said...

Is he really blaming his cousin?

Wow...

Anonymous said...

Whoa, he almost broke down there when he was talking about his teammates.

Greg Cohen said...

"Gave it a try"???

You don't "give something a try" for three years.

Anonymous said...

what was with the lady talking in spanish?

Greg Cohen said...

I think she works for a spanish paper or network.

Anonymous said...

i hope that answers your question lol

he was so close to completely coming clean.. he should have just spilled everything... he should have said, "yes i was trying to get an advantage by using steroids", and he should have said "I knew what the steroid could do and I knew that it could make me a better player". even if it didnt, he should have said he thought it could, just to make it sound more sincere. he sounded so dumb saying he didnt know too much about it.

also he should have said "yes, i cheated"

Francesa is ripping him apart lol

Greg Cohen said...

I agree with a lot of what Francesa is saying.

Anonymous said...

"LOL"

Yes, I love mocking folks from my self-exalted perch, too.

Greg Cohen said...

Spare me... A-Rod caused all this. Nobody should feel sorry for him.

Anonymous said...

A-Rod did cause all this, the choice to use steroids was his alone and he made that choice to keep up with the Joneses. No one should feel sorry for him.
Though this story was also broken by a writter who chose to focus on him above the other 103 names on a list to promote interest in her expose on him.
Also where was the scrutiny on her to publicly apologize for her story on the Duke lacross players who's lives she ruined, all the while she's nailing A-Rod to the wall.

Anonymous said...

Yes, A-Rod brought this on himself. But shitting on him just to make yourself feel better -- and that's what it is -- is pathetic. People in all walks of life sin and make comparable mistakes and errors of judgment as guys like these do. It is hypocritical in the extreme to smugly belittle others in the safety of the darkenss you know no spotlight will ever bother lighting.

A Proverb comes to mind:
"Do not rejoice when your enemy falls,
and let not your heart be glad when he stumbles."(24:17)

Another is like it: "he who is glad at calamity will not go unpunished." (17:5b)

Oh, and one other comes to mind; something about casting the first stone..."

Alex is getting what his actions deserve. There is reason to rejoice in that. But to mock and scoff as so many across the internet, not just here, delight in doing is detestable.

GOD you people make me sick , you are the product of the media, you analyze every word like you are reporters. Of course he is leaving things out. Its none of your business who is cousin is. Do you blame him for protecting his family? Even thou he knows they will find his cousin anyway and torment him until he speaks. And Gary you are just as bad as the rest , yes you can give something a try and then continue to use it. Yes he is pretty dumb obviously he is a career athlete who didnt go to college. Obviously this is a guy who didnt grow up till recently. Dont forget he had no father growing up and then went streight to the bigs out of high school. You people need to get off your pedestals seriously. You all know that you would take the crap 2 if you thought you wouldnt get in trouble for it. Stop shitting on Arod when so many of you would do the same, and 103 others tested positive with him. AND FUCKING LISTEN TO WHAT THE MAN IS SAYING FOR CHRIST SAKE.
Gary : is he really blaming his cousin? ummm i believe he said it was all his fault multiple times. I believe he said that he asked is cousin to get it for him. You wanted to know where he got it and how he found out about it and he told you, now you blaming him for giving you the info and saying he is blaming others now.... PLEASE stop your idiocy ... you may be dumber than he is.
O and nobody should feel sorry for him? really ? when so many others are making millions by taking this crap and none of them are out there like him. All this crap his on his shoulders now because a confidential test was leaked illegally. While the others on that list sit on their asses and laugh all the way to the bank.
Should you feel bad for a multimillionaire? not for having money ... but you should feel bad for a man who has to take shit from people day after day without a moments peace. A man that is expected to hit his team all the way to a title. A man that just went through a divorce and has to hear about it every second of everyday. A man who's kid is very sick right now and yet noone gives a shit.
Is his life all peaches and creame? no get over it, he suffers just as much as anyone and in many cases worse.
I find myself in an odd place defending this guy but seriously, reading and hearing the shit that is said is fucking ridiculous. Stop pretending you know anything , and just realize that this steroid crap was everywhere and hopefully is getting better. The man has admitted it and said he was sorry, even while all of you continue to shit on him. This is more than anyone else has done. You all have this sense of betrayal and entitlement but none of you know what it is like to be him or be anyone of importance in a tough situation. All i can say is i hope you feel better about yourselves now that all this has happened and you can shit on some baseball player , if that makes you happy.

Anonymous said...

if the 103 other players were named would this shit all have happened to each of them? it should because A-rod shouldn't be singled out for this

Greg Cohen said...

Anon, a few things :

Relax... Have a drink or two and take a deep breath.

Who is Gary?

Yes I believe he was passing off some of the blame to his cousin.

I do give him credit for admitting it.

Him not having a father is no excuse for anything.

Anonymous said...

Sorry Greg*
No i will not relax because you people wont relax.
Again, believe what you want but just think about your position.
Everyone wanted to know who it got it from and where he got it. so he told you. Result = you shit on him.
I didnt say it was an excuse but you and everyone else refuses to look any deeper into this man. All he is to you is a baseball player who cheats and gets a contract and collects his checks.
Do you not believe that he is a human being and there are reasons why he acts the way he does?
Anyway, regardless of all that, you are all truly more naive then he ever was if you believe that he is the only bigtime player to have taken steroids. 104 players is just the start and he is the only one who will feel the pain of that list.
Again you all find it so easy to burn someone at the stake, but really most of you would have done the same. Alex is clearly not the greatest guy but seriously you all make him about to be th son of sam or something. I am not even up here saying he told every and was totally truthful , but really it doesnt matter, he confessed he apologized , get over it.
Its truly sad that fans of other teams will give this guy so much shit when every team has guys who have or are still doing it. The biggest joke was Ortiz the other day, I mean really if you think he never did roids you are kidding yourself, the guy all of a sudden hits 40 hrs, and he lives in the Dominican, hmmmm yeaaa think about it. THe list goes on , so really the message should be if you want to shit on arod be careful because others will be exposed.

Anonymous said...

maybe he though your name was Gary Cohen, like the guy from SNY... lol

all in all, he could have done a better job.. but the apology was the best that we've seen from a ball player. personally i dont hold anything against him, i will continue to support him b/c he's a yankee. i have never and wont ever boo him, that just makes more tight in a big spot. he needs our support

we just better hope more stuff doesnt come out in the future. if that happens, he's dead.

Anonymous said...

"Him not having a father is no excuse for anything."

Agreed. But it does help *explain* him. And that makes him a much more sympathetic figure, in my mind. And I would think in the minds of many others, too.

Greg Cohen said...

Eric,

I feel bad for him, and anyone who doesn't grow up with a parent. But still, its no excuse.

Anonymous said...

He's still one of the greatest players in baseball history with or without steroids

Greg Cohen said...

Anon,

I'd bet money Ortiz did roids, and I never thought or said that A-Rod was the only star who cheated nothing could be further from the truth.

Anonymous said...

I agree Anon^^^

Anonymous said...

If Ortiz thinks that players who test positive should get a year long ban why is he getting ready to play this season?

Anonymous said...

Bottom line on this whole thing is that people try to cut corners in everything. Hopefully the testing is good enough now and will get better. just a shame that arod has to be stuck with this whole thing on him. not very fair now is it , but i bet those other players on the list are never gonna say a word about it and in fact many of them are probably happy because arod makes the most money , they prob think he deserves it or asked for it.
But to anyone of the yankee fans, you better support him because this whole mess could likely destroy him mentally. Wont be very good for our team if we have a an arod that is a shell of himself.
