Cano To Third?

From Buster Olney (hat-tip to MLB Trade Rumors):
The Yankees talked internally in the past about how Robinson Cano's best position, in the long term, might be third base. And it may be that if they determine that A-Rod will be out for a long period of time, they could shift Cano from second to third, and create another set of options for themselves, as they try to replace A-Rod's offense.
Interesting idea, and as MLB Trade Rumors mentions, it makes it easier for the Yanks if they decide to bring in a guy like Mark Grudzielanek and Ray Durham who both "aren't known for their range." Keeping one of them at second will be better for the team's overall defense. The idea of Jeter and a guy with bad range at third is downright frightening.

What do you guys think about this?

I dont know if I believe this. I think it would be pretty drastic moving Cano to third with only a month left until the start of the season. You really hurt your defense. Because Grudzilanek & Durham are not as good fielding as Cano in the second. And you make thirdbase weaker by putting someone who never played third before.

Yankees should trade for Blake Dewitt. Heyman said he is available.

Cano played a little third in the minors and certainly has the arm and range for it.

Dewitt would be a nice pickup. I wonder how much the Dodgers would expect in return.

Cano might be okay but it would be so much different playing third when your used to second. Reading hitters is so much different. Its one of those things they should try soon. If he doesn't get it, he should not be there.

Craig you're right, they need to figure this out right now. They can't wait until the first week of April to either let Cano learn the position or go with someone else.

They also need to figure out if letting A-Rod play through this is the best idea or not.
