That still might be true, but they sure have me fooled with the effort they put forth in tonight's game against Puerto Rico. Down 5-3 in the bottom of the 9th, facing elimination, Team USA rallied for three runs to win the game 6-5. The US cut the lead to 5-4 with a one out bases loaded walk by Kevin Youkilis. David Wright then steped up and sliced a two-run, walk-off single, down the right field line to win it for the Americans. It would have been nice to get Jeter back in Yankee camp, but it was a great win for the US, who have now advanced into the semifinals.
Here's some video of Wright's walk-off hit.

I got a little sad watching this game it became very obvious Jeter is getting old and becoming a defensive liability.
He's been a defensive liability for a while now, but yes, tonight you really saw how limited his range up the middle is.
I wonder what the yankees will do. The DH spot will be open next year but Jeter doesn't produce typical DH numbers. Maybe leftfield for Jeter? I wonder how Jeter will react to that, he cant possibly think he will be playing short for the rest of his career.
Jeter's very stubborn so you never know. He may believe that.
I'm really not sure what they should do. Surprisingly enough he had one of his best defensive seasons last year. So if he can maintain that level of play he should be alright for the rest of this contract.
As long as Jeter isn't let go after his contract, I could care less where he plays. I know I will be very disappointed to see him get his 3,000th hit in a different uniform.
I don't think he will be let go, as our organization handles our veterans pretty well, and usually keeps them pretty happy.
this is still going on?
i think US players care. The fans are the ones that don't care and its rather disappointing and sad. All these other countries have their fans behind them and the US team have to look at a handful of people chanting U-S-A. its ridiculous! but I want US to win in order to spark more interest here at home. The tournament is way better to watch than boring spring training games where the regulars leave after 5 innings.
and yes, Jeter is a defensive liability that needs to be replaced asap. The captain is a great player but he just doesn't have it defensively at short stop.
maybe this is another jeter, i don't recall him costing the many games he played in last year for the yanks. it was pitching and lack of clutch hitting. Jeter will be at SS for another few years
