Team USA Squeaks Past Yanks 6-5

The Yankees took on Derek Jeter and Team USA today at George M. Steinbrenner Field with Team USA winning 6-5. Also, for some reason USA manager Davey Johnson decided to play 6 of his 9 regulars for the entire game.

Phil Hughes started for the Yankees, and in 2.2 innings allowed two earned runs on three hits while striking out two.

Phil Coke pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, allowed one hit and struck out two.

Eric Hacker was very ineffective today. He was unable to record and out and allowed 4 runs - 3 earned - on two hits and two walks.

Michael Dunn threw 1.2 scoreless innings. He did not allow a hit, struck out three and walked one.

David Robertson threw 1.1 scoreless, allowed no hits, walked one and struck out two.

Jose Veras pitched a scoreless inning, also without a hit, walked one and struck out two.

Besides Eric Hacker, the Yankees held basically an all-star team to 2 runs on 4 hits.

Offensively the Yankees were led by Brett Gardner who went 3-for-3 with a double, a stolen base, and a run score.

Jorge Posada and Cody Ransom both went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Ransom also stole a base.

Nick Swisher went 1-for-2 with a double and two RBI.

Colin Curtis, Melky Cabrera, Mark Teixeira, Xavier Nady, and Eduardo Nunez, all had one hit apiece.

Derek Jeter led the way for Team USA going 2-for-4 with two RBI, a walk, and a run scored.

i know it's too early to make this determination and you should never read too much into ST stats (remember josh phelps?), but it looks like Gardner is going to be in center on opening day. realistically even if he drops off offensively he still offers more speed and better defense.

Thats true.

I'm not a Braves fan but I just hope that Kenshin Kawakami isn't another Igawa.
