(AAA) Scranton-Wilkes Barre (6-0) beat Buffalo 5-3 in 11 innings: Box Score - Recap

The SWB Yanks defeated the Buffalo Bisons (Mets) in 11 innings by a 5-3 score. The win pushed the Yanks record to 6-0.

PITCHING: Jason Johnson made his 2nd start for the Yanks. Johnson threw a scoreless 1st inning giving up a double. Buffalo scored 1 run on 3 singles, wild pitch, and rbi groundout to make it SWB 2-1 in the 2nd. Johnson worked out of a jam in the 3rd giving up 3 hits, getting a DP and strikeout. He threw a scoreless 4th after giving up a walk and single. Johnson continued his struggles in the 5th inning giving up a run on a walk and double to make the score SWB 3-2. Johnson's Line: 5.0 IP, 2 runs, 8 hits, 4 K's---3 walks, ERA 3.72 87 pitches--50 strikes, 7 groundouts---5 flyouts.

BULLPEN: Steven Jackson came on to pitch the 6th inning, allowing a run on a double and single to tie the score at 3. Jackson threw a scoreless 7th allowing a walk.

J. B. Cox pitched a scoreless 8th inning allowing a single. Cox walked the leadoff batter in the 9th, but stranded him forcing extra innings.

Mark Melancon came on to pitch a perfect 10th inning, striking out 2. Melancon picked up the win (1-0) throwing a scoreless 11th with adding his 3rd strikeout of the game. Melancon in his 3 games so far has 11 K's of the 18 batters he's faced. No hits, no walks, the only baserunner reached on an error.

OFFENSE: The Mets top pitching prospect lefty Jonathan Niese started this game for Buffalo and was less than impressive. SWB broke out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning. Kevin Russo had an infield hit, stolen base (3) , moved to 3rd on a wild pitch. Shelley Duncan drove him in with an RBI single. The Yanks picked up an unearned run in the 2nd to make it 2-0. Austin Jackson walked, stole 2nd (2), moved to 3rd on a throwing error, and scored on Angel Berroa's RBI groundout. SWB made it 3-1 in the 4th on a walk, passed ball, and an RBI single by Kevin Cash. With the score tied at 3 in the 10th, Austin Jackson walked, stole 2nd (3), and scored the go ahead run on Berroa's RBI double. Russo followed an RBI double, his 4th hit of the day, to make the score SWB 5-3.

Kevin Russo had an RBI double and 3 singles. Austin Jackson singled, had 2 walks, stole two bases, and scored 2 runs. Angel Berroa had a double and 2 RBI. Shelley Duncan and Kevin Cash each added RBI singles. Todd Linden had a double. And Doug Bernier and Chris Stewart each added a single.

NOTES: Austin Jackson made his first start in leftfield. Kevin Cash left the game with an injury. Ian Kennedy goes for SWB Wednesday again at Buffalo.
