News & Notes

UPDATE 4:04 p.m.: Ken Rosenthal just said on the FOX pre-game show that Alex Rodriguez could begin playing in minor-league games next Friday and return by to the Yanks by May 8th.

UPDATE 2:43 p.m.:
Here's some more news about the recent injuries/transactions from Pete Abe:

- Cody Ransom has been placed on the 60-day DL and has been replaced by Angel Berroa.

- Humberto Sanchez has been released, not DFA'd but released. The Yankees will have to make another 40-man roster move later to make room for Melancon when he arrives. He is expected to reach Fenway around 5:30 p.m.

- Brian Bruney has a "strained flexor mass," and Pete says, "His ligaments are fine, it’s a muscle injury. He will not throw for a week and they’re hoping that takes care of it." Could be a lot worse.

- A.J. Burnett has great numbers against Boston. In his career he's 5-0, with a 2.56 ERA in eight starts against the Red Sox. Last year he was 2-0, with a 2.60 ERA in four starts. At Fenway his numbers go from great to ridiculous. In his career there he's 3-0 with a 0.40 ERA in three starts. And last year he went 2-0, and did not give up a run in two starts.

This will be the first time Burnett throws to Jorge Posada in a regular season game and it should be interesting to see how the two work together.

- Josh Beckett, who is a jerk, is 7-4, with a 5.33 ERA in 12 starts agains the Yankees. Last year he was much better against the Yanks, going 3-1, with a 3.25 ERA in four starts

- Mark Melacon, David Robertson, and Angel Berroa were called up this morning. Chien-Ming Wang (hips), Brian Bruney ( right elbow), and Cody Ransom (right quad) are all headed to the DL. No word on any 40-man roster moves yet.

- Here's an interesting, and disheartening stat from Joba Chamberlain's start last night, in his 91 pitches he was only able to get two swings and misses. Not good.

- Here's something I think all of you would be interested in checking out. It's SaveTheYankeeGate2.com, and here's their mission statement:

Our objective is to work with the Bronx Community, the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, and the New York Yankees in saving a small portion of the old Yankee Stadium exterior wall at Gate 2. Located near the intersection of River Avenue and 161st Street, it will serve as a dramatic gateway into the new Heritage Park.

We wish to recognize and remember, through the preservation of Gate 2, the historical and cultural importance of the old Stadium. This Gate stands proudly for all the fans, players, and individuals who visited, played, and worked within her majestic confines. It is the most architecturally significant element remaining from the original 1920's era ballpark.

With the move across the street to the beautiful new Yankee Stadium, this tangible "bridge" from the old to the new will enhance that great continuum of Yankee history for the enjoyment of generations to come.

Let us work together and SAVE THE GATE!

I think this is a pretty good idea and I'm sure many of you feel the same. There is a lot more information on their website here. I know it's a long-shot, but maybe if we all get behind this we can make it happen. Who knows.

Stick around and discuss the game
as it happens in the comments section.

The injury bug never fails.

Looking forward to seeing Melancon though.

Greg Cohen said...

It's so frustrating Nyyfn.

Brian Danuff said...

I hope Bruney will be alright. Like you said Greg, take away Bruney and this bullpen is crap.

(unless Melancon lives up to his expectations)

Liam Gallagher said...

I really hope Melancon can do great for us. Same with the other two. It would put less stress on the ball club.

Anonymous said...

I guess the Yankees should have kept Nick Green and played him. There is something wrong with Cashman and the Yankees FO when a guy like Nick Green, who was just in the Yankees organization, can come up and play good for Boston while we have Cody Ransom, Pena, Melky, Ramirez, Marte, Veras, et al. Its really pathetic when you start to think about it. The simple fact is that the Yankees FO is not very good.

Brian Danuff said...

Too bad for Ransom. On Peter Abraham's blog it was just said that Ransom is going to be place on the 60 day DL! Talk about a serious injury.

Brian Danuff said...

Wait a sec, now they're saying Damon is hurt too and the injury is serious.

Plus, Bruney's injury is described as a strained flexor mass. He won't throw for a week and then will begin to work his way back.

Brian Danuff said...

Sorry, I think Pete means Ransom when he put Damon, so nothing new besides the Bruney news.

Greg Cohen said...

Where'd you get the info on Bruney?

Unknown said...

So i guess that other comment style was short lived, eh Greg? haha. Yeah why mess with a good thing i guess...

Big game today boys, we need this one.

Brian Danuff said...

Alright, gotta head to baseball practice. (first game tomorrow!) See ya guys.

Greg Cohen said...

Not totally Derek. I'm very close to figuring out how to keep the old comments with the new format. I think I've got it so it only works for new posts.

Brian Danuff said...

Peter Abraham's blog.

Anonymous said...

Eric Duncan should of been called up instead of Angel. Duncan is having a better year at Scranton.

Brian Danuff said...

True Anon.

Unknown said...

This better be the end to injuries. Ransom isn't that big of a deal since A-Rod should be back soon. Bruney will be a huge blow if he is going to be out for a while. I'm excited to see Phil Hughes again if they call him up. He deserves a start.

Anonymous said...

Angel Berroa is going to be a butcher at third. People thought Ransom wasn't that good defensively wait until you see Berroa.

Greg Cohen said...

Hey guys, I just posted something in this post about a proposed (by fans) plan to part of the old stadium and use it as a memorial. The name of the site is Save The Yankee Gate 2, It's definitely worth checking out. I think it's a great idea.

Greg Cohen said...

I have to change my previous answer, Derek. Yes, I have scrapped the new comments thing for now. It's working for ten minutes and then not working at all.

Will said...

This gate idea is nice. I have a better idea IMHO, which Yankee fans can do on their own if organized right.

In Berlin the location of where the wall once stood is memorialized with a stone path

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/136/368224594_c09d746da6.jpg?v=0

Once this park is complete yankee fans could go and start to implant such a path in the park to mark the location of the original foul lines, outfield wall, and base paths. This could be done using satellite imagery, gps device (iphone will do) and bringing our own small stones, bricks, etc to the park and implanting them into the dirt. screw bloomberg and the parks dept who will never do anything right about memorializing yankee stadium. We do it ourselves.

Will said...

oh my, i hadnt seen how much worse the plan had gotten, the ball fields dont even bare the slightest relation to yankee stadium. good lord, well the community certainly seems to have gotten its revenge on yankee fans, who for the most part didnt really care that the yankee stole their park land from them for the new stadium.

Greg Cohen said...

Yea the plan sucks now as far as Yankees fans are concerned.

Emmanuel said...

GOd this sucks being at work during the game.

Greg Cohen said...

Yea Swish!

Will said...

swish is the man.

Greg Cohen said...

They gotta get more.... don't let Beckett off the hook here.

Greg Cohen said...

29 pitches so far for Beckett.

Anonymous said...

Buck and McCarver sound so pissed the Yankees are scoring runs.

Will said...

ok great job from the usual suspects, now Matsui deeeeeeeeeeliver!

Will said...

Beckett is tossing lots of balls. good to see yankees taking lots of pitches. and swish really battled.

Greg Cohen said...

Yep, the Yanks are having some great at-bats this inning.

Anonymous said...

Ahhh fucking shit Matsui.

Anonymous said...

Burnett's curve is great today.

Greg Cohen said...

Yea he made Lowell look like a fool.

Anonymous said...

Beckett's is nasty too.

Greg Cohen said...

CANO!

Anonymous said...

How the hell did he hit that?

Greg Cohen said...

CANO, AGAIN!

Hey guys, just got back from practice.

Brian Danuff said...

Great. Right when I thought it was a game they could win, I'm now biting my nails to see if they can even hold on.

Anonymous said...

Oh yes there's the brilliant Yankees at it again. Giving up a Grand Slam to one of the worst hitters in the league. Great managing again Girardi by going with Posada catching. Lets see, Burnett with Molina= Lights Out, Burnett with Posada=AWFUL and terrible decisions. This fucking team is pathetic and they play like a bunch of pathetic fuckign pussies. Just like Cashman and Girardi.

dan said...

if we lose another game that we should have one i swear to god.... watch we'll somehow lose today and then blow another game tomorrow.. so instead of us sweeping them, we'll get swept.

Anonymous said...

Yea you fucking loser Yankee hitters come up and do nothing. What a loser team with no guts and balls. Play like your pussy captain.

Brian Danuff said...

6-6

dan said...

we lost

Bentton said...

you know, every time i get up on here, there's always an anonymous jackass talkin' shit, like they know everything!

Anonymous said...

Yankees=old, overpaid, overhyped bums starting with Jeter, Mo, Posada, Arod and Matsui. Get a clue Cashman.

Mr.Whitefolks said...

Girardi=Deer in headlights.

Mr.Whitefolks said...

Lemme quote Kanye here "how could you be so heartless?"

Anonymous said...

Its amazing how clueless Girardi is. This is ANOTHER Cashman guy.

Bentton said...

talk all the shit you want, that's all you can do is talk shit. now, when october rolls around, and were hoisting the trophy, how about about you kiss our ass. we got the money, talent, and new stadium. this is tradition right here. maybe your ass is too damn blind to see. so wake up jackass and adknowledge greatness when u see it

Jon Bachrach said...

Damn you Jason Bay whoever you are.

dan said...

that was our chance to get the momentum back, and we blew it.. i would be shocked if we won this game. we keep finding new ways to lose, its so damn frustrating. i want to blow my head of right now

Anonymous said...

We wont' be hoisting anything. This team is horrible and all led by Cashman guys.

Bentton said...

dan, relax fam. we got this. even though it's early, we'll pull this one out. have faih man

Bentton said...

what exactly do you have against brian cashman? like really? do you have a personal vendetta against him?

Mr.Whitefolks said...

Let me just separate myself from the crowd. I am a 5th generation born and raised New Yorker, former multi season ticket holder, current NYC resident and real deal Holyfield Yankees fan. I just callem like I see em. I reserve that right to be a critic when I see crap baseball.

Bentton said...

i respect that mr. whitefolks

Anonymous said...

The FACT that Cashman SUCKS. There is nobody that does more with less than Brian Cashman. He's the worst GM in baseball.

BTW, how many of these high scoring games has Posada caught? Posada=Terrible. Girardi=Moron. Team=Cashman built. Nothing more needs to be said.

Mr.Whitefolks said...

Peace :)

Bentton said...

ok, but that's all that comes out your mouth. cashman this, cashman that, blah, blah, blah. like you have something personal against him. do you think you'd do better than cashman? i mean seriously. we've had dull moments, but i mean that's still not enough for you to shit on him like that

Mr.Whitefolks said...

Damon. I can"t take too many games like this.

dan said...

we still have to score alot more, and we still have to somehow not give up runs.

Mr.Whitefolks said...

I am such a loser. 80+ degrees outside. Im indoors Yankees/Nfl draft picture in picture, hunched over a keyboard. Ugh.

Anonymous said...

Yes, I can do better than Cashman. A monkey throwing darts could do better. As a matter of fact, not only could I do better, but I will take half the contract Cashman got and if I dont win it then I will give all the money back. Cashman's a loser. Just look at the team he builds. They are atrocious. Just about every move he makes is terrible. Nady and Marte for 4 players? Nady and Marte SUCK!

There is no way this game should be 8-8 right now. This is absolute failure by the Yankees. They are CHOKE ARTISTS. Led by Jeter, Mo, Posada, Arod, Matsui and Damon. They are old. Retire already. Fire everyone and start over. Beleive me there are alot of Yankee fans that feel this way.

dan said...

we have all summer of 80+ degrees..

Bentton said...

well anonymous, maybe your right. maybe there are some truths to what your saying. i personally don't agree with how you feel, but that's how you feel. i can't knock it. but really, since you, and every other yankee fan that feels the way you do can't do shit about it, here's a simple solution: suck it up, and move on! cause talkin' all this shit your talkin' really isn't gonna solve anything. you can keep bitching, and complaining, and bitching, and complaining, and really it's getting you nowhere at all. so just suck it up, and shut up

Anonymous said...

No, you shut up you fucking proud communist. You go tell someone else what to do. You dont tell me what to do you freedom hating socialist..

And, one thing you're not Posada is Varitek. You aren't clutch, you aren't a leader and you ALWAYS swing at garbage when we need you. The Red Sox leaders wouldn't have swung at that pitch. That's for sure. They would have waited for their pitch and creamed it. Just watch them. The Yankees "leaders" swing at garbage pitches out of the zone. JUST WATCH!

Mr.Whitefolks said...

why bother

dan said...

here we go again... and once again a free pass to the number 9 hitter

Bentton said...

communist? freedom hating socialist? i just see it how it is homeboy. i'm bein' real with you. you talk, you complain, you bitch, you whine, you talk, blah, blah, blah. and it's really getting you nowhere. i bet for all the shit-talkin' your doing, not one person on this blogsite even pays attention to anything you say. you run your mouth and the words go through one ear, and simply out the other. you hate cashman, ok. that's nice. you wan't him gone, that's nice. but since you really can't do shit about it, and the only thing you have to hold on to, is trash-talking, the only smart thing for you to do, is just to shut the hell up, and do something else more constructive with your time. your wasting it talking. like you sound like charlie brown's teacher when you talk

dan said...

our pen is a fucking joke.. if bruney is out were in big big trouble

Greg Cohen said...

These have been two really frustrating games.

dan said...

what the standings should be:

NYY 11-6 ( we really should be like 13-4)
BOS 9-8

what they will be:

BOS 11-6
NYY 9-8

Greg Cohen said...

Cano's having quite a game.

dan said...

why did they walk bay? he represented the go ahead run.. i guess they figured he would just hit a HR.

Cano's HR is just gonna make this loss even more painful

Jon Bachrach said...

Cano is rocking the house tonight. This is what I like to see.

Greg Cohen said...

You neever know Dan. I'm pissed at a lot of things too, but there's still a chance. This is Fenway.

Greg Cohen said...

These games at Fenway are ridiculous.

dan said...

i like our offenses chances, but our pen is just atrocious.. is Mo good for today if necessary? I would think he would be..

not melky.

Greg Cohen said...

If they're winning Mo will pitch.

Greg Cohen said...

Damn it Melky.

dan said...

thats why no melky in that situation

Jon Bachrach said...

Has there ever been a worse base runner than posada?

dan said...

Wang

Greg Cohen said...

He's just slow Jon, that was a smart base running play to allow Melky to get to second.

Jon Bachrach said...

I think he is great but sheesh... oh wait there was somebody on second. I was just venting.

Jon Bachrach said...

Ah okay Greg ...

Anonymous said...

Has there ever been worse hitter than Melky? Worse manager than Girardi? Worse GM than Cashman? 10+ year vets who can't run bases like Posada and Damon. Obviously all the clowns are not in the circus. They are on the Yankees and in their FO. CLOWNS!

Anonymous said...

Wait a minute, let me get this straight. Girardi pinch hit Melky for Berroa? ROFLMAO!! Now, I have seen it all. What a terrible manager. He is just absolutely clueless.

dan said...

i would have rather had him send up CC to pinch hit

Anonymous said...

And, Beckett went farther than AJ. BWAHAHAHHAHAHAH! You are a moron Girardi. Brilliant move having Posada catch! What was AJ's record and ERA vs Boston before Posada and Girardi? Bwahahahahahahh! Another great game called by Posada. How many times has Posada giving up 10+ runs this year as a a catcher? Hey Cashman sign hiim to an extension. HURRY UP! While you're at it, get Jeter too. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!

Bentton said...

see anonymous, there you go again, blah, blah, blah, blah. running your mouth, like people really pay attention to what you even say. like what you say really is anything important

Anonymous said...

How the hell can you guys watch, root, or cheer for this team and organization. It is being run by Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles.

Anonymous said...

Good going Posada. You are brilliant. Put more men on base so they can score while you are at catcher. You loser. No wonder this team has NEVER won anything with you as their starting catcher.

Greg Cohen said...

He got him by a foot. At least. Of course the umpires have to screw us again.

Bentton said...

and once again, there you go. running your mouth. how about you shut up, mind your business, and move on with your life. i mean seriously, all you do is trash the yankees, and all that talkin' on here gets you nowhere in life. do you feel good? because only immature jackasses like yourself would do something like that. you make fun, you trash-talk, and it's really getting you nowhere. maybe the reason your like this is because your life is pathethic. you have nothing better to do in your time. maybe you need to look in the mirror and realize that your voice is not important

Anonymous said...

And, then they steal a base off of Posada. Yup real good call Cashman and Girardi. One moron extends him and the other starts him while he gives up runs after runs after runs. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

Bentton said...

man, your life must really be that horrible, that all you can do is trash talk. you need a life

Anonymous said...

I can't wait for the Red Sox to score more runs off of Posada and the great BP that Cashman hand built. YIIIPPPPPPPEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!

Greg Cohen said...

And the blown call kills us. Fucking umpires.

Bentton said...

wow, this anonymous dude is a straight jackass

Anonymous said...

Bingo. Just like I said. The great Posada, Cashman and Girardi strike again. Edward Ramireze is NOT a good pitcher. DUH! Oh, that's right according to Cashman he is. Now, we get Marte! YEA!! Another Cashman loser. How many runs will he give up. Hey Cashman, while you are at it, why don't you give up 4 more players for another poor reliever because that's what you seeem to be good at. BWAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

Greg Cohen said...

Oh great, Marte.

Greg Cohen said...

He's a douchebag, I'm trying to ignore him.

Anonymous said...

Brian Cashman the Anti-GM!

How many runs will Marte give up?

How many runs will Posada give up?

Will Cashman or Girardi do anything about this besides give them extensions and more money.

Anonymous said...

Douchebag=Accurate, Factual and Truthful. All liberals and evolutionists get in an emotional panic over facts.

Bentton said...

i feel you greg. i mean, this guy is wasting his time running his mouth, when no one pays attention to him. i'm tryin' to make this guy realize, that he's not important. it's a shame when people are a waste on earth!

Greg Cohen said...

"liberals and evolutionists"?

WTF are you talking about?

JENNY TALIA said...

FIRE GIRARDI!!!!

Anonymous said...

Of course, you can't argue facts because facts bother you. I become your enemy because I tell you the truth. Truer words were never spoken! About 2,000 years ago and written down in a Book! And, that Book is WAY ahead of the news media propaganda which I can't wait to hear AFTER this game.

Greg Cohen said...

What does the bible have to do with the April 25th Yanks-Sox game?

Anonymous said...

Uh oh. Fire Girardi! LOL, now that is dead on. Fire Cashman while they are at it. Dump all the old men and start over. I'd rather have youngsters learning then this garbage.

Anonymous said...

The Bible runs and controls everything. Men deny it while they are doing exactly what it says they are doing! Nations too. The Yankees are REAPING and SOWING right now as we speak.

Greg Cohen said...

Oh lord.

Bentton said...

actually, anonymous, your not truthful and factual. your talkin' outta your ass. your making yourself seem stupid in the midst of all of us yankee fans. your wasting your time. why even talk type when no one pays attention to you? like your begging for attention, and no one is giving it to you. your like a fuckin' child begging for candy. you want truth? here's some truth. your annoying. you run your mouth. you talk alot of shit, and honestly it is getting on my last nerves. if i knew you personally, i'd personally kick your ass. that's nice you have your opinion on the yankees. everyone does. but it's one thing to voice your opinion and another to straight trash a team it seems like you know nothing about. that's like if i was to trash your whole family, whatever family is dumb enough to claim you. you run your mouth, and talk, and talk, and talk, and talk. and no one pays attention to you. sounding like charlie brown's teacher. and you call me a communist? it seems to me that your the jackass communist. what you should do, is take your no-talent having ass, and leave this blogsite. i'm pretty sure my man greg is tired of your ignorance, and immaturity. i know i am. god must've made a mistake in this world when he made you. and your parents must really be ashamed. i know if i was related to you, i'd commit suicide something serious. so there you have it. read it, say what you want. i can care less, cause your not important in anyway to anyone. if you wanna watch the game, watch it. comment, do whatever. but don't be a jackass about this team. don't make yourself seem like the asshole, because that's exactly what your doing. it's sadd for you.

16-11 ROFLMAO. Lets get this straight, the Yankees brilliant GM brings up Robertson so he can WALK people and then give up doubles. Now, that is some GMing right there. Obviously, the Yankees FO is one of the most clueless in all of the game. They are the laughing stock of the ENTIRE league.

How many runs has Posada given up as the Yankees catcher this year? Any takers. Any takers.

What does 26 championships have to do with Mo? Nothing.

Mo's a choke artist since 2001. That's a fact. He has done NOTHING since then except give away important games. And, 26 World Championships has nothign to do with how POOR this team plays or is built by Cashman.

This current team under Cashman is ATROCIOUS! They all should be fired and they should start over. This team is impossible to root for. Plus, they dont care about the fans. They deserve what they get.

Nice batting there too Damon. And, way to give up that big inning earlier when you got picked off 2nd for NO REASON. Well, you did it because you are DUMB. Like this current crop of Cashman players. DUMB!

Greg when are we going to play softball?

Anonymous said...

Um, I am not doing that. So, go blame it on someone else. But, that's what you type of people do. You blame people that aren't to blame and dont' blame the people you should. You're called white-washed pharisees. Thats the type of people you are , you vote for and the type of church you grew up in.

Maybe tomorrow.

One last time, how many runs has Posada surrendered as the starting catcher?

Is he a good signal caller?

The only way this jackass Anonymous will stop is if you stop talking to him. You keep striking up conversations with him and he's only going to continue. Just ignore him and he'll stop eventually. Talking to him is only giving him what he wants.

Exactly you can't talk facts. Too stupid I guess.

Guys,

I was out fishing on a lake in Tennessee all day and then went for a few beers at a red-neck beer joint. We got back to my friend's house at about 9:30 CT and turned on ESPN to check scores. I got to see all the highlights....

Oh boy, are we in trouble. That's about all I can say. I'm going to wait about two weeks before I name any names (especially the name I know Greg just knows I'm going to mention! LOL), but I'm afraid we're going to have to make many changes from top to bottom in order to improve this team. I've not seen a more humiliating, prideless defeat than todays's (I refer in particular to the pitching staff). Oh my! We are in deep, deep trouble.

You knop, with the seat pricing debacle and the quality of play (pitching) I'm seeing on the field, I must say I long for the days of the "healthy" George.

Mike

PS Does nayone know what's really the matter with George's health, of is this subject more carefully guarded than Obama's birth certificate?

Sorry for the misspellings, but it is late (and I promise I had only two beers at the red-neck joint)!
