A-Rod To Tampa on Monday

From George A. King III:
The Yankees will be in St. Petersburg, Fla., on Monday to play the Rays, but the focus -- at least in the morning -- will be about 20 minutes north in Tampa.

That's where Alex Rodriguez is expected to work out at the minor league complex and take a gigantic step toward coming back from hip surgery.

"We expect him there Monday, probably not with us, at the minor league complex," Girardi said of where his cleanup hitter and third baseman will test his right hip with baseball activities. "He'll do all baseball stuff, so it'll be a significant day for him. Until now all he has swung is a broom handle."

Girardi said he expects Rodriguez to visit with his teammates at Tropicana Field before Monday night's game.

The Yankees are still eying May 15th as his return date, but many believe he will be back sooner. I'd like to see him back as soon as possible, but I also believe the Yankees should play it safe and not rush him back. The worst thing that could happen is he comes back too quickly and re-injures himself.

So all things considered, when's your prediction for when he comes back. I can see him returning on the 27th against the Tigers, giving him 2 rehab weeks. Although it would be nice if he could return the 24th against the Sox... Hopefully is everything is alright they don't hold him back until the 4th against the Sox.

I think he'll be back in the first week in May during that first homestand.

Peter Abraham just mentioned on his blog that A-Rod may already be in Florida. The Miami Herald is reporting that A-Rod was seen in Miami on Thursday eating with his children.
