Yesterday's Loss Was Historically Awful

George King had this at the end of his "Yankees Notes" article this morning:
According to Elias Sports Bureau, the 6-0 lead the Red Sox erased in their 16-11 win marked the largest deficit they had overcome to beat the Yankees since May 16, 1968. The Red Sox trailed 9-3 in the fourth inning of that game, but won, 11-10.
It had been 41 years since the Yankees blew that big of a lead to the Red Sox. Well besides in a playoff series, but we won't talk about that.

the save gate 2 site is great but there was no place for us to comment (it was part of the game commnets). Can you reinstate with its own comment section. I think we should all get behind this project. thanks

Hey RPB, I just posted it above.

I am really growing frustrated with this team. When they hit, the pitchers fail, when the pitchers are going great the offense is missing.

The middle relief is horrible, Girardi seems to be taking the Torre approach which is
experience > talent, where were Melacon and Jackson, ones been up for a few games already. How many times do we have to get burned by Edwar, Damaso and Veras before Girardi gives the kids a shot.

STOP playing Gardner! Gardner=Over hyped. I'll take Melkys power, range and arm over Gardners speed. Give Ramiro Pena a shot too, why play Ransom til hes hurt? Then use Berroa who's been miserable and failing since he won ROY.

I think a lot is riding on Hughes when he's up here. If he does well and Wang gets on track move JOBA back to the pen. I'll take him helping the team setting up 4 times a week then giving us 5 or 6IP only one time a week.

DO SOMETHING!

Man it's frustrating to watch these games, going to work tommorrow will suck because I will have to hear it from my co-workers. I agree with anon, I don't see the fascination with Gardener. Our starting CF is a slap hitter? How many games now have our pitchers gave up 10+ runs?
I know its still early, but one day soon it won't be "still early".

Gardner was fine he is the number 9hitter he scored the go ahead run in the 7th. People are now making Melky out to be Willie Mays. Melky came up in the eighth with 1 out and couldn't get the runner on third home. Where was his power?? He couldn't hit the ball in the outfield. On Friday night he left a small village on base. Yankees have to do a better job getting runners in from third with less than 2 outs. Getting 2 out rbi's is difficult.

The Bullpen sucks Veras, Edwar and Marte are garbage. Everytime the yankees took a lead yesterday the next half inning the bullpen gives up the lead. We should of won both games if it wasn't for the bullpen.

Greg Cohen said...

Most of the bullpen's problems should be blamed on the starters. Nobody besides Pettitte is going deep into games, and they're worn out. The starters are going to have to start going at least six full innings everyday or this team will be in a lot of trouble.

The yankees need to trade for someone reliable in the 7th inning. 8th inning is Bruney and closer is Mo. Than with Marte, Coke, Albaledejo and Melancon then you will have a solid bullpen.

The team is missing a 7th inning pitcher. Melancon, Albaledejo and Coke are to young for the role.

Greg Cohen said...

Can we at least see what Melancon can do against MLB hitters before we say he's "too young"?

There are a lot of young guys who come up from the minors and dominate in the pen. Maybe Melancon can be that guy for us.

@ Greg

That is a good point the starters haven't been very good. CC needs to step it up he is an innings eater. You expect not getting much innings from Joba. And Wang was a disaster 3 losses are on him.

Also AJ has been very good except for yesterday reading between the lines from the postgame comments seems like AJ and Posada had a hard time working together. AJ should only pitch to Molina.

I think Molina should catch Burnett, they worked well together. I also believe Molina should catch Wang, they worked so well 2 seasons ago and last season before the injury.

Everyone is saying go out and get that 7th inning guy but we may already have him in Melancon. And like I said before if Hughes does well, and Wang finds his stride and starts to dominate again, we can move Joba back, that would bump Bruney down to the 7th and then the 6th could be handled by Giardi's butt buddies Marte, Veras and Edwar.(I would love to see Jackson, Melancon, Robertson get a shot, but Girardis philosphy is experience > talent..wait soounds familiar, coughtorrecough.)

GARDNER IS NOT FINE! Hes an out. His speed this, speed that, gimme a break. Have you watched his routes, has he taken a walk? has he gotten a ball over the SS's head? Sure Melky left guys on but hes got more TOOLS then Gardner, Gardner is 1 dimensional, speed. Melky has decent speed, pop and an ARM!

Get It together!
