5/9 Minor League Report

================

We are lucky enough to have a SWB report from BigGuy tonight.
He won't be doing these all the time by when he does I will
post them. Thanks BG for the great contributions.

(AAA) Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (23-6) lost to Louisville 3-2: Box Score - Recap

PITCHING: George Kontos made his 2nd AAA start for SWB. Kontos held Indy scoreless the first 4 innings. He worked out of trouble in the 1st when he gave up a double, and the 4th when he gave up a triple. In the 5th Indy picked up 1 run on 2 singles and a stolen base to cut the lead to 2-1. Kontos struck out the side in the 6th for his only clean inning of the game. He was charged with 2 runs in the 7th to give Indy a 3-2 lead on a bunt single, stolen base, throwing error and rbi single. Kontos was charged with the loss (0-1). Kontos' line: 6.1 IP, 3 runs, 7 hits, 7 K's--2 walks, 92 pitches - 63 strikes, 6 groundouts - 5 flyouts.

BULLPEN: Mark Melancon relieved Kontos in the 7th with runners on 1st & 3rd and 1 out. He gave up a RBI double (run charged to Kontos) to give Indy a 3-2 lead. Melancon tossed a scoreless 8th after giving up a leadoff single. 1.2 IP, 0 runs, 2 hits, 0 K--0 walks.

OFFENSE: SWB broke out to a 2-0 lead in the 2nd. Luis Nunez reached on a force play, stole 2nd and went to 3rd on a wild pitch. Doug Bernier drove him home with a RBI single. Todd Linden followed with a RBI double. That was all the scoring the Yankees did in the game. The Yanks stranded the bases loaded in the 5th and wasted an Austin Jackson double in the 6th. SWB had the tying run at 3rd in the 9th, but could not score.

NOTES: Shelly Duncan is still out with a sore shoulder. Eric Duncan is slumping at 0-16, and 1 for his last 29 at bats. ... Kei Igawa gets the start Sunday. ... The Yanks signed right-hand pitcher Josh Towers to a minor league deal and assigned him to Triple-A Scranton. ... Their record is now at 23-6 on the year, the best in minor league baseball.
