News & Notes
- In one start against the Angels, Phil Hughes went 6.1 innings, allowing five runs on four hits, walked five and struck out four. He got a no decision.
- Joe Saunders has made three career starts against the Yankees, he's 1-1, with a 7.63 ERA. The win came in his one start at Yankee Stadium, a game he lasted six innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits, walked two, and struck out four. In one start against the Yanks last year, Saunders allowed three runs on six hits, walked three and struck out six in seven innings for a no decision.
- Mark Teixeira told Peter Abraham that his wrist is better, and that he can not start working in the cage before games again. I guess it's a valid reason for why he has stunk so badly, but still, you should be able to pull the ball on the ground with a runner on third and less than two outs even with a bad wrist.
- According to Pete Abe, Damaso Marte was just placed on the DL with a sore shoulder. Marte said it had been bothering him for a week, and that he injured himself while in Boston. Anthony Claggett has been called up to replace Marte. Girardi said in the pregame that he has some tendinitis, and he's "just not right." He also said that it may be the WBC injury that is still lingering.
- Nick Swisher could pinch-hit today, and could be back in the lineup tomorrow.
- Joe Girardi said that Angel Berroa gets the start because of the lefty. Pena is a switch-hitter, though, so I don't really get that "reason." I still think that's a mistake.
- The Yankees are hitting .350 against left-handed pitching this season.
- Melky Cabrera has a seven game hitting streak.

witch hunt bullshit by MLB on ARod. who's fault is it that steroids have been kept a big secret and who fucked up the anonymous tests actually associating names with the player test samples? fucking MLB bud shithead selig and it would be nice if ESPN would start hammering this douche for being responsible instead of just riding the ARod bandwagon. Peter Gammons should have done an interview with Selig instead of ARod.
because of the lefty? Isn't Pena a better hitter on the right side?
Let me add, this ARod thing feels a whole lot like the bank bailout crap where the govt likes to find the straw man of the day (for example piddly bonuses and hedge funds buying bonds) without looking at the mortgage fraud that was going on by lenders and barrowers, without ousting the top leadership of the major banks who ran up the bubble, and pretending that all these banks are well capitalized (yeah, with our stinking tax dollars).
Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.
I think the one thing that is important for Hughes is he stay away from the rest of the entire pitching staff (and probably the coaches), which is infected with 6th inning flu.
That's what Girardi said in the pregame, I'm not sure what side of the plate he's better from. He should be starting regardless. He's ten times the fielder Berroa is.
You're right Wiil, the people who should be getting hammered for this by the media are Selig and the players association.
A-Rod, however, sells papers. People eat this stuff up. So yes, I agree that this is bulls***.
My game has just been cancelled. We were at the field and it was all muddy, and the umps called it before the first pitch was even thrown.
Hopefully the Yankee game doesn't get cancelled.
Luckily the Yankees have a multi-million dollar field with great drainage system.
The satellite also looks like there might be a window. No I'm not a weather man, but I'm just telling you what I see.
Excatly. There are 103 more names that haven't been relased, and if they are going to investigate A-Rod, they'll need to release the other names and investigate them as well. It's not fair. I know nobody really likes him, but its no fair just because Alex is probably the biggest name on the list he should take all the heat.
And we are now in a rain delay. Don't be surprised if they drag this one out for a while. This is the last time the Angels come to town and they will do everything they can to get this game played today.
What ever happened to April showers bringing May flowers?
Global warming?
If you are watching YES, they are showing:
"YANKEEOGRAPHY - Tino Martinez."
As I watched this, I realized that Mark Teixeira is almost a carbon copy of Tino in his first month. He got booed and really did not succeed in clutch situations. Until a game in Baltimore in like late April where in extras Tino hit a grand slam to win the game for the Yankees. And he got better and became a fan favorite. Teix has the potential to become the next great first baseman, and hopefully he can get out of this slump like Tino did. One big home run/RBI will get him started.
They did have many similarities to their first April, the only difference is Teixeira hit 60 points lower. I'm not too worried about Teixeira, he'll be fine. It's just frustrating to watch him stink of the field like this.
*BREAKING NEWS*
Today's game postponed. No makeup date yet.
