News & Notes

- Joe Girardi said on WFAN today that he expect Nick Swisher to be back in the lineup tonight.

- Phil Hughes is 0-1, with a 27.00 ERA against the Sox in one start against the Sox in his career. In two innings he allowed seven runs (six earned), walked three, and struck out three.

- In five career starts against the Yankees, Jon Lester is 2-0, with a 3.34 ERA. He was 1-0 with a 0.57 ERA in two starts at the old stadium. He made a start in the first series in Fenway and took a no decision. He went six innings and allowed two runs on seven hits, walked three and struck out seven.

- As I mentioned earlier, according to Peter Abraham the Yankees have called up right-hander Alfredo Aceves and sent down Anthony Claggett.

- The Yankees are hitting .350 against left-handed pitching this season.

- Melky Cabrera has a seven game hitting streak.

- Also from Pete Abe comes news that Alex Rodriguez played in another extended spring training game today in Tampa. He played seven innings and went 1 for 6 with a homer and a walk. He also played third base but did not make any plays. He will play in another extended spring training game tomorrow.

No way they get this game in tonight.

Greg Cohen said...

I don't think they will either.

WILL WE EVER SEE ANOTHER YANKEE GAME IN NEW YORK?

THEY WILL PLAY TODAY... MARK MY WORDS.

Greg Cohen said...

hahahahaha OK... what exactly have you seen from today's forecast that makes you optimistic?

Brian Danuff said...

lol

But seriously, A-Rod's gone 1-6 in every rehab game he's played. Either he's saving his bat for when he comes back, or he is just struggling right now.

I HAVE SPOKEN!!!!

Greg Cohen said...

hahahaha, I hope you're right Guru.

Pena is a switch hitter why take him out. Can he not hit leftys?

Even if he cant hit his defense is a huge upgrade from Berroa.

Greg Cohen said...

You're right, leave Berroa on the bench. He's a butcher at third base.

Brian Danuff said...

Use [Berroa] as a pinch runner (unless Gardy is still on the bench, therefore he would be used).

Something has to be up with Pena if he's not playing. He's been hot. I'm in Queens here and right now it's just a few drops here and there as far as the weather goes.

Bruce Beckett said...

With this batting lineup, I'm kind of hoping we don't get the game in tonight. Boy, do we need the top three in the order to make a major contribution.

Just saw Cano and Melky on the field hugging and laughing with David Ortiz.

What a joke I am tired of seeing this nonsense. If the players cant take this rivalry serious why should I. Melky needs to be traded know that his value is up.

I HATE MELKY!!!!!!!!!!!!

ARod has been going 1-6 so as not to embarrass Teixeira.

.

So I am now beginning my Girardi count down clock. I give him 30 game days. Every loss from here reduces the number of game days Girardi has to live by 3, every 1 wins extends it by 1. So if after 30 game days they have gone 15-15 that will be -45 and +15 for a net 0 games until he his fired. Thus the Yankees thus must be better than 15-15 over the next 30 games for Girardi to keep his job. If at any point the number of games left reaches 0 he'll be fired - so the soonest is 15 game days. A small number of games over .500 will prolong the misery and at that point a reassessment of the odds of Girardi being fired will have to be reassessed.

Will said...

sorry - Im using the new math. Soonest he can be fired is ten days, should we see a 10 game losing streak.

Will said...

and yes, I will be reassessing the reassessment.

How are they going to play with this rain?

Vinsanity13 said...

Why is that that everytime I stay up soooooo late at night to see the Yankees even if I have an early class the next morning, the game gets delayed or rained out?

I think God hates me.

Go Bombers anyway.

Anonymous said...

Rain Delay. This sucks.

Anonymous said...

screw this rain

MP said...

As much as i can't stand this rain at the moment, just think how sick 5 games in 3 days at the Stadium would be if they pick up these games in another Yanks-Sox series.

i want to see how this bandbox plays at midnight

Brian Danuff said...

FINALLY! The tarp has been taken off the field, and the game should start in about 10 minutes.

Rich said...

FINALLY. DAMNN.

Rich said...

F YOUK. I LIVE TO HATE THAT MOUNTAIN MAN NOGGIN THOUGH

Brian Danuff said...

How did that one get away from Molina?

Anonymous said...

Wow. Gamecast shows 3 strikes were called as balls in that Drew at bat. It was pretty obvious, but I had to check. WTF.

Mike B. said...

I think you're right, Will. But I wish they'd dump him sooner. All the coaches except Pena, too.

Just for the hell of it, who'd be our next manager? Pena?

How many will Hughes walk?

Mike

Will said...

Girardi is running out of wishful thinking.

JC said...

So why the hell is Berroa starting in place of Pena?

Pena has been red hot and is a switch hitter.

WTF?

This is the kinda stuff that pisses me off with Girardi.

Rich said...

starting berroa was a great idea

Joe said...

My God Teixeira is the effing worst. Watching him makes me wish Tony Clark was our first baseman, what a lousy waste of money.

Mike B. said...

So...uhhh...Molina's in there for defense, eh?

Way tp play that ball,Damon....

Mike

Mike B. said...

Right you are, JC. Girardi has no clue.

Mike B-

My guess is Buck Showalter or Willie Randolph if they can lure him away from the Brewers.

Mike B. said...

Scott,

Buck,eh? I'm not sure about him. I'd say no way on Willie. Perhaps Pena would be the best bet.

The pitching, hitting, and no-name baseline coaches need to go, too.

One more guy may need to go, too, but I promised myself I won't mention his name yet.

Mike

Scott_in_Sacramento said...

Mike-

Pena would be a good bet too. I agree that the entire staff should go as well. If I am thinking of the same guy you are, I can't picture them letting him go before the end of the season. The damage has been done, can't do anything about it now.

Greg Cohen said...

This game fucking blows.

Mike B. said...

Right you are, Greg. The team has no leadership, no drive, no real motivation. We are adrift. Pray for a miracle.

Mike

PS If we are indeed thinking of the same guy, Scott, I would think he'd be allowed to hang on for the entire season, too. If only to prove there's no justice in the world....

Scott_in_Sacramento said...

I'm starting to think it is my fault. They have lost every game I have watched. Good thing I didn't buy the Extra Innings package... they'd probably go 0-162.

Mike B. said...

LOL, Scott. I DID buy the Extra Innings package! But at least they win when I go to The Stadium!

Mike

Scott_in_Sacramento said...

I won't get a chance to go to the Stadium this year, I might go see them when they come to Oakland though.

Mike B. said...

I wonder if they'll have a new manager by then?

Mike

we need sum daam runs

Yankeefan91 Arod Fan said...

I Had a prrety great record da last 2seasons at the old stadium i been 10-2. the only lost against the orioles and the jays

JC said...

And while I'm bitching, why is Molina in the lineup, too? We're going against Lester, who is a great pitcher -- we need offensive guys in the lineup. And the game was rained out yesterday, so Posada already had an off-day!

Mike B. said...

How 'bout that! Two homers (Shitty call on Jeter, though).

Mike

Mike B. said...

Will they now give the runs back?

Mike

Mike B. said...

Nope, thanks to that double play....

Mike

Can we please win this freaking game!

Magic 8 Ball said...

Signs point to No

Will said...

Why don't the Yankees just gather up some of the homeless around the stadium to pitch the late innings, they would likely work for a hell of a lot less.

Will said...

What is this, Tex all of a sudden trying to save Girardi's job?

Danny said...

I bet Dave Eiland gets fired first.

Will said...

wat? this inning isnt over yet?

Danny said...

At least Pena knows when he's seen enough of a pitcher. I think Girardi inadvertently proved tonight that Pena is the only competent major league coach there.

Why did Pena even bring in Edwar, he is a waste of a roster spot.

Hughes got squeezed. This is getting ridiculous. Jorge to have an MRI. We are getting A-Rod back soon and now we are losing Posada.

Mike B. said...

I agree, Danny, that Pena is the only real coach on the staff. My guess is Giaradi sent word to him to pitch Edwar (who sucks).

Mike

Greg Cohen said...

Guys, am I the only one that's pissed at Pena for not having Johnny Damon bunt in the ninth inning?

Danny said...

Yes because like Singelton said last night. That would have taken the bat out of a hot Texeira's hand. I know there's a love fest with Swisher but he's not been all that great at home.

Greg Cohen said...

I like Singelton a lot but I completely disagree with him. First of all Mark Teixeira's hand is hardly hot. He did run into two pitches, but besides that he's been a joke all year.

Also it's putting too much faith in Johnny Damon to come through against Papelbon, who owns him. Damon is 0-for-11 lifetime against Papelbon and Teixeira is 0-for-4.

Danny said...

Tex was hot till the 9th last night. In retrospect maybe Daemon should have bunted but I see the logic with letting him swing.
