Winning pitcher - CC Sabathia (4-3)
Losing pitcher - Brad Bergesen (1-2)
For the third straight start CC Sabathia was dominating. Tonight he held the Orioles to one run on three hits, walked one and struck out seven as the Yanks beat the O's 9-1 for their seventh win in a row. The lone run came in the top of the first after he allowed singles to Brian Roberts and Adam Jones to start the game. Roberts would steal third and eventually score on a ground out. CC allowed just two base runners after the first, and at one point retired twelve straight. He had a very good changeup and for the most part pounded the strike zone all night, throwing 69 of his 105 pitches for strikes. It was another great start for CC as he was able to pick up his fourth win of the year, and his first win at the new stadium. If you're wondering why he only went seven, according to Joe Girardi on the post game, CC would have pitched the eighth had the Yankees not extended their lead to eight in the bottom of the seventh. “That’s the type of guy, when we signed CC, that we imagined him to be,” Girardi said.
After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first the Yankees came right back with two runs of the their own in the bottom half of the inning. Johnny Damon got on with a one out single, and two batters later took the lead on a two out, two-run moon shot off the bat of Alex Rodriguez. He now has five homers on the year and has homered in four straight games.
That's how things would stay until the seventh as Sabathia and Orioles' starter Brad Bergesen mowed through both lineups. After retiring the first batter in the seventh Bergesen walked both Nick Swisher and Robinson Cano before being taken out and replaced by Chris Ray. The first batter he faced was Melky Cabrera who singled to load the bases. Francisco Cervelli then reached on an error by shortstop Robert Andino and the Yanks led 3-1. Derek Jeter then drove in three with an RBI double - the third run scoring on a throwing error - and the Yanks led 6-1. Damon drove in the Yankees seventh run with an RBI single, and then Teixeira hit a two-run homer deep into the second deck to cap off the Yanks' seven-run seventh. The homer was Teixeira's team leading 11th of the year, and he also leads the team with 30 RBI.
The best news of the night for the Yankees was that Brian Bruney returned to the mound and looked very sharp. He struck out one batter in a 1-2-3 eighth, and of his 15 pitches 10 were strikes. His fastball had good velocity, sitting at 94-95 mph, and his breaking pitches had good movement.
Brett Tomko pitched a scoreless ninth to finish off the game.
The Yankees have now won seven in a row and are a season high five games over .500 with a 22-17 record. Phil Hughes will start for the Yanks tomorrow, and he will face Jeremy Guthrie. Hughes has struggled, going 1-2, with a 7.56 ERA in four starts. Guthrie hasn't done much better for the O's. He's 3-3, with a 5.21 ERA in eight starts.

2 more strikeouts for Swisher. Its time to put Melky in Right and Gardy in center whenever he is healthy to play.
I second that.
No it's not. Swisher could use a day off, but he's still getting on base, and he'll come out of it. He's not going to rake like he did in April, but he will be a run producer and get on base at .400 clip. No way you make Swisher a bench player to free up time for Brett Gardner.
Great game last night. With the type of pitching this team has, we're going to see runs like this all year.
Another great start by CC. He is 3-0 with a 1.13 ERA in his last 3 starts.
Nice to see the Yanks get Bruney back too. Now if Wang can just get his velocity up and return to form, the rotation will finally be what we were all hoping for.
Just thought I'd say:
It feels good having one more reliable reliever back in the pen.
Seeing Bruney, Mo, Aceves, Tomko, and Coke is much more pleasing than seeing Veras, Edwar, or Albaladejo.
Now that Edwar is gone, Veras needs to be limited to a mop up role, and Albaladejo can be used only with a tired pen.
Before the news of Edwar being sent down, I was praying to Gardner that Veras would be sent down, even if that means he's claimed off waivers.
He's like Farnsworth, a disaster waiting to happen when he comes into a game..
Great start from CC but I really was pissed that Dave Eiland was standing at the top of the dugout all of a sudden acting like this was the result of his work. We all know it wasn't.
