6/12 Minor League Report

We are lucky enough to have a SWB report from BigGuy tonight.
He won't be doing these all the time by when he does I will

(Triple-A) Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (36-25) lost to Gwinnett (34-28) 5-4: Box Score - Recap

PITCHING: George Kontos
got the start for the Yankees and did not have one of his better games. He threw scoreless 1st and 2nd innings. In the 3rd, he gave up a solo homer, walk, and 2-run homer to give the Braves a 3-1 lead. After a scoreless 4th, Kontos gave up a solo homer in the 5th that tied the score at 4 at the time. He was taken out after the 5th inning and did not figure in the decision. Kontos' line: 5.0 IP, 4 runs, 5 hits, 4 K's--3 walks, 92 pitches--51 strikes, 7 groundouts--4 flyouts.

BULLPEN: Anthony Claggett
came on to pitch a scoreless 6th, although he gave up a single and walk. In the 7th Claggett gave up a run on a hit batter and 2 singles to give the Braves a 5-4 lead. Claggett walked the leadoff man in the 8th then got the next 2 batters before being removed from the game. Claggett ended up taking the loss and is now 3-3. Mark Melancon relieved Claggett with 2 outs and a runner on 1st in the 8th. Melancon struck out the only batter he faced to end the 8th.

OFFENSE: Juan Miranda
blasted a solo homer (10) in the 2nd off Tony Armas Jr to give SWB a 1-0 lead. SWB regained the lead 4-3 in the 5th after 2 outs. Austin Jackson doubled, Cody Ransom walked, Shelley Duncan hit a 3-run homer (20). SWB stranded runners in scoring position in the 3rd, 4th, and 7th innings.

NOTES: Kevin Cash
finally threw a runner out trying to steal in the 6th inning. He's 1 for 12 on the year. ... Austin Jackson went 3-5 with a double, 2 singles, run scored, and stolen base (12). ... Cody Ransom making another rehab start was 0-3 with a walk and run. ... Todd Linden agreed to terms with the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles of the Japanese Pacific League. He's had been playing very well for SWB, hitting .312/.381.,515 with 7 HR and 42 RBI in 60 games.
