6/24 Minor League Report

================

We are lucky enough to have a SWB report from BigGuy tonight.
He won't be doing these all the time by when he does I will
post them. Thanks BG for the great contributions.

(Triple-A) Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (41-29) lost to Syracuse (38-32) 5-3: Box Score - Recap

Xavier Nady made his first rehab start for SWB in this game. Nady played right field and hit 3rd in the lineup. He went 1-3 with a double to deep center and a walk. Nady did not have a ball hit to him in rightfield in the 7 innings he was out there to test his arm.

PITCHING: Sergio Mitre got the start for SWB. Syracuse had at least 1 runner on base in every inning but the 4th when he set the side down in order. They had a runner thrown out at the plate in the 3rd. In the 5th, 2 singles, a sac bunt, and 2-run single tied the score at 2. Mitre left the game after 6 innings with the score tied at 2. Mitre's line: 6.0 IP, 2 runs, 7 hits, 6 K--1 BB, 87 pitches--57 strikes, 9 groundouts--1 flyout.

BULLPEN: Edwar Ramirez came on in the 7th. After getting 2 quick outs, a walk, stolen base, rbi single, stolen base, and another RBI single scored 2 runs to give Syracuse a 4-2 lead. The 2 runs snapped a 9 inning scoreless streak for Ramirez. Ramirez took the loss (0-3).

Jonathan Albaladejo came on to pitch the 8th and gave up a solo homer to make it 5-2 Syracuse at that point. He threw a scoreless 9th. He gave up a leadoff single. but Chris Stewart threw out the runner trying to steal.

OFFENSE: The Yanks had plenty of scoring opportunities. They had a runner stranded at 3rd in the 1st (Kevin Russo) and 2nd (Juan Miranda) innings. SWB finally broke thru in the 4th. Shelley Duncan and Miranda singled. Justin Leone hit a RBI double, and Doug Bernier got the 2nd run in with a RBI ground out to give SWB a 2-0 lead. SWB threatened in the 6th when Nady crushed a 1-out double to deep center, but was stranded. In the 7th, Russo singled, Nady walked, and they were stranded at 1st and 3rd. In the 8th, Miranda scored after leading off with a walk. He moved up to 3rd on a wild pitch and ground out, and scored on an error to make it 5-3.

NOTES: Jose Veras was traded to Cleveland for a 6-pack and pepperoni pizza. ... Cody Ransom finished his rehab stint, recalled to NY. ... Austin Jackson snapped a 1-16 streak with a single in the 3rd. Jackson went 1-5 and is now hitting .328. ... Shelley Duncan is the leading vote getter in the AAA all star balloting. Remember, voting ends Friday, go vote!
