Winning pitcher - Tommy Hanson (3-0)
Losing pitcher - Chien-Ming Wang (0-6)

It was another pitiful performance from the Yankees offense tonight in Atlanta as they dropped their third straight, a 4-0 shutout to the Braves.

It was the same story, different day for the Yanks tonight as they once again couldn't hit with runners on and pick up the big hit. They went 0-for-8 with RISP and they left 11 men on base as a team. Nick Swisher, Mark Teixeira, and Alex Rodriguez - the Yankees 2-3-4 hitters - combined to go 0-for-12 with a walk on the night.

They had a ton of chances off Braves' starter Tommy Hanson who allowed nine base runners in 5.1 innings. In the second inning they left the bases load, then left two on in the third, and then left them loaded again in the fourth. After Hanson came out of the game, the Yanks couldn't get anything going against three Braves relievers.

Chien-Ming Wang
was actually pretty good tonight. He had the one bad inning, a three-run third, but had a good sinker with good velocity (avg. 92, topped out at 94), threw strikes, and was very economical. In five innings he allowed three runs on six hits, walked one, struck out four, and threw 42 of his 62 pitches for strikes.

If you're wondering why he was taken out after just 62 pitches, that was because Joe Girardi decided the 6th inning with one out in a three run game was time to use Hideki Matsui. I think it was a little early for the move, but it's not a bad move. The offense has been asleep and they needed a jolt. Matsui did walk to bring Derek Jeter up as the tying run, but he banged into a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning.

Phil Hughes had another impressive performance out of the bullpen, pitching two perfect innings and striking out two. He once again had a great fastball which averaged 94.4 and topped out at 95.8, and a nasty curve that he was throwing for strikes. Hughes threw 27 pitches, 17 for strikes.

David Robertson pitched one inning and gave up a solo homer to Brian McCann.

I don't know what's going on with this team right now. You would think there is too much talent on this team for them to continue hitting like this. They're also only a game better than they were last year at this point - through 70 games this year they are now 38-32 and five games out of first place, last year through 70 they were 37-33, six games out of first. The funny thing is, game 70 last year was the game the Yankees lost Wang, and injury that a lot of people - including myself - look at as one of the turning points in the season. This year, on the other hand, they're relatively healthy, and Wang, who ironically starting game 70 of '09 as well, had one of his better starts of the season. So I'm not ready to see this comparison and expect the worst. If they start hitting they'll win some ballgames.

Jeter is killing the team lately. Whenever there is runners on base he keeps GIDP. Posada, A-Rod are not hitting. Cano is not hitting with RISP. Thats why they are losing right now. Teixeira is only walking and hitting singles. Its pretty simple half of the lineup is struggling that why they are losing.

Hanson basically was giving the game away with all the walks but no one in the lineup can get that one clutch hit with RISP.

Joe G should take a lesson from Phil Jaskson. A trip to the movies may help his players loosen up a bit.

im sick and tired of everyone saying the yankees are overall a bad team. theyre not bad overall, they're just not hitting. the starting rotation minus Sabathia has been much better with not giving up runs and the bullpen has been outrageously good as of late.

theyre playing like an overall bad team right now. Cant hit in the clutch, a lot of fielding errors, walks.

Girardi looks like hes gonna cry in press conferences. You cant just keep saying things are gonna get better you gotta do something to get your team going.

they look so old and slow

They will turn it around. Everyone was giving them the chip about a month ago when we were rolling. It's a long season, once the bats wake up we will be fine.

Change the line up/batting order Gardner/cf;Jeter;Tex;Arod;Damon/DH;Cano;Posada;Swisher-Shelly Duncan/LF;Melky/RF...Jeter will allow Gardner to play his game off 1b --Damon can not play the OF it is hurting the team and his arm is past poor. Matsui has become Giambi and will be more than filled in for by Damon, and the bases won't be clogged. Melky brings speed to the bottom and has RF arm. Berroa goes and I personally would bring Shelley Duncan up to platoon with Swisher in left and he can give Tex days off at first as well. I think Damon and Cano hitting together will be great in the middle of the line up, as well as 4 good speed guys and one great speed guy on the bases. If a starter goes down make Acves the next starter and leave Hughes in the pen. Giradrdi is managing for his job-"LETS GOOOO JOE!!

It is unbelievable the way the team is playing. If I was Joe Girardi I be hopping I don't loose my job at the end of the season. If he doesn't loose his job I hope some one else does starting with the hitting coach. Their is no reason a team like this could suck the way the Yankees do right now.
We were in first place for for a few games and we could not capitalize. We are also fixing to loose first place on the wild card. I dont know what is going to take for this team to turn it around. Where are the Steinbrenner brothers, if it would have been the BOSS he would have straighten up this team already with one of his famos threats. Lets go

Lets go already and win some games!!

I think the Yankees should demand that A-Rod gets back on the steroids because:

(1) He clearly can't perform at his highest level without them.

(2) When they gave him that ridiculous $252 million contract, it was based on numbers he produced while taking steroids.

(3) If he fails a test and gets suspended by MLB, at least the Yanks won't have to pay him for 50 games.

(4) Perhaps they will then have a legal loophole to terminate his contract on the basis that when he signed his new deal he did not make a full disclosure of his past history with performance-enhancing drugs.

Eight more years of watching the most over-rated player in baseball missing meatballs over the middle of the plate is going to drive me to drugs!

So What excuse are we going to use on the rest of the team!

bring up AJax by the Allstar break and hope for the best. Lineup: Jeter, Damon, ARod, Tex, Canoe, Posada, Swish, Melky or Gardner, AJax.

substitute Nady for Swish

Let's not forget Posada's retarded throw to CF in the 3rd inning too, from his knees to add to his goat-like performance last night.

I agree with Rob, this team isn't nearly as bad as they're playing. The only major problem since the Red Sox series has been the offense.

And yes Miller, that throw was embarrassing.
