News & Notes

- Chien-Ming Wang is coming off his longest outing of the year after lasting five innings against the Nationals last Wednesday. He has made one start against the Braves and it came back on 6/28/2006. He went 8 innings, allowed 2 runs on 7 hits, walked 1 and stuck out 2 in a no decision.

- Braves starter Tommy Hanson is making his fourth big league start and he's 2-0, with a 4.08 ERA. At Triple-A this season he went 3-3, with a 1.49 ERA in 11 starts. In 66.1 innings pitched he allowed 11 earned runs on 40 hits, walked 17 and struck out 90.

- The Yankees need to come to decision on Cody Ransom. He comes off the 60-day DL tomorrow and the Yanks will either have to add him to the Major League roster of put him through waivers. The decision seems pretty obvious to me, add him to the roster and send Angel Berroa packing. UPDATE 7:01 p.m.: Nevermind that, Girardi told the media that Cody Ransom will with the team tomorrow. Either Angel Berroa or Ramiro Pena will go down, hopefully it's Berroa.

Here's a few updates from Peter Abraham:

- CC Sabathia received treatment for his bicep tendinitis. His bullpen was pushed back to tomorrow and he still thinks he'll pitch on Friday.

- Johnny Damon is still out with a sore calf. He could pinch-hit.

- Joe Girardi’s protest of Sunday’s game was denied by MLB today.

Way to get us going Captain!

ARod has been nothing short of horrible. I am wondering if the hip is worse than anyone is letting on.

Greg Cohen said...

His bat is so slow.

Wang can't keep his ball down again. Can someone tell me what Dave Eiland does for this team?

crossfire said...

Time to send Wang to the pen and bring Hughes back.

Better yet, make up a phony injury like all teams do and put Wang back on the DL so that he can work out his issues in the minors like he should have done in the first place.

Hughes is being wasted in the pen.

I see Posada is working on giving up his usual 6 runs per game. How many games you think you're going to win giving up 6 runs per 9 IP? You think it is time for a change Cashman or Girardi? Or do you just enjoy going down the same path for years? Stupid is as stupid does.

Can someone tell me what Jorge Posada does for this team?

Greg Cohen said...

You have a point, Anon. I don't know how Eiland still has his job.

crossfire said...

Posada is pitching again?

Dammit Greg, you had Wang listed.

Wang not being able to keep the ball down has nothing to do with Posada and that's not even an attempt to defend Posada.

It's 100% Wang's fault.

Swisher = bench player

i'm fucking disgusted...another no name, young pitcher causing fits for THE BIG BAD YANKEES...

JC said...

Would it hurt this team to get ONE fuckin' big hit?! Seriously, we blow chance after goddamn chance.

I already follow this team on a nightly basis through Gameday because they aren't worthy of being on my TV. Next stop is not following the game at all and just checking the score on the nightly news.

This team is a joke. If they don't straighten out soon, Girardi needs to go.

Greg Cohen said...

Well, Tommy Hanson is actually a big time prospect, and the Yankees have had a bunch of base runners, they're just not hitting with RISP once again.

JC said...

LOL!! They have have THIRTEEN guys on base through FOUR innings.

Talk about a total joke....

Anonymous said...

Then why dont our other catchers give up 6 runs per game?

And, great team you built Cashman. Wow, you are one special GM. You have managed to build the worst starting OF in the bigs, mediocre defense all the way around, one of the most expensive lackluster infields in the game with no range anywhere, a pitching staff that loves to walk people and give up tons of runs, and an offensive team that can't hit with or without RISP. Oh, and they love GIDP's.

What would it hurt to play ALL the young guys and sit ALL the overpaid, overhyped, old men? What, would we lose games, give up 6 runs per contest and not hit with RISP?

JC said...

For once, I actually agree with this Anon...

I don't think Posada is really to blame, but I agree that the team is a total joke and half the team needs to be be benched.

Seriously... Something drastic needs to be done to wake them up. Sit a bunch of guys, no music in the clubhouse, no clowning around.... Nothing like that. They need to remember that it's not a goddamn party, that it's a baseball team. A very expensive baseball team that was supposed to win 100 games.

This team is so very frustrating right now.

Vote in the poll on the right sidebar. Thanks!

JC said...

Woo!! FOURTEEN men left on base now!!

a7tex said...

alright anon, are you actaually a yankee fan? u just seem to bash them all the time. If theyre doin good or bad a fan is still supposed to support the team not find whos at fault about it. Ya ok once or twice, but every day i see "great team you built cashman". Youre probably one of those people who boos everyone slumping at the games. Just go put on your red sox jeresy and go to a sox site, no one wants to see u hear. O and yes i also know theyre not doin good but im not bithchin about.

Think Wang has pitched pretty well so far tonight. Had our chance to take the lead early on and, as has been the case recently, failed to take them. Sad to see A-Rod missing pitches he would normally put into the top deck. Think we are rapidly reaching the stage where drastic action needs to be taken.

JC said...

Wang isn't the problem tonight. The problem is that we can't hit the broad side of a freakin' barn.

Greg Cohen said...

JC is right.

Greg Cohen said...

Hanson is begging the Yanks to get back in this game.

Anonymous said...

Awesome, lets watch the $20m SS hit into a DP. I can't wait!

JC said...

Jeter will strikeout, then Damon will popout.

That's my prediction.

JC said...

Oops. Meant Swisher.

Greg Cohen said...

Jeter needs a big hit.

Greg Cohen said...

But of course he grounds into the 6-4-3 DP.

Anonymous said...

Can someone tell me how jeter leads in the all star voting by literally miles over bartlett aand others. Jeter sux and this team sux, i love every single one of them to death and the orginization to death (minus the front office) but they SUCK !

JC said...

LOL!! Douple play!!

SIXTEEN men left on base!!

JC said...

Yeah, I'm giving the Yanks a really hard time right now, BUT....

You can't say Jeter sucks. Lets not get crazy here. I mean, come on....

JC said...

Why is Wang out? He threw 60 pitches!

Capone said...

Maybe Jeter needs a day off instead

Greg Cohen said...

Girardi figured down three with a runner on in the sixth was a good time to use Matsui.

JC said...

Yeah, I guess... Personally, I would've rather seen Wang stay in the game. He was pitching pretty well. Could've given him a confidence boost. But also... I think he went out on a high note, which is good.

I can see the thinking in what Girardi did.

Anonymous said...

I can say it, Jeter sucks. He is absolutely awful. How you can NOT say it is beyond me. You all live in 1996. This team is awful and it was put together by Brian Cashman. There isn't a GM who does less with more.

And, who didn't know Jeter was going to hit into a DP? I called it before it happened and posted it. Jeter is AWFUL. He has a whiffle ball bat swing. Get it through your heads.

Damon, Jeter, Matsui, Arod, Posada and Mo should all be benched. Then, lets see what happens. At least start with benching SOME of them. This is ridiculous.

Greg Cohen said...

Anon, shut up already.

JC said...

He's hittin' .302, Anon.

Your Jeter argument holds no water.

a7tex said...

fuck he just missed it!!!

Greg Cohen said...

Geeez this team can't buy a run.

Omar Adams said...

Arod cant get a hit, but that time down the line, he was running much better

JC said...

See what happens when you leave the joke that is called new Yankee Stadium...

Sorry for being kinda obnoxious tonight. I've held in my Yankee frustration for over a week now and need to just let it out tonight before I hang myself....

Anonymous said...

So? And, you're exaclty why this team is in the position its in. You continually support MEDIOCRITY and love it. Like I said, you live in 1996.

Dont get mad at me because your boy hits into DP after DP after DP and kills any and all rally's.

What does his .302 do for us when it matters? NOTHING. $20m piece of garbage. Slow, no range, no power and hits into DP's routinely. He should be batting 8th or 9th. And, he should be replaced next year. We dont need him because he isn't any good. In fact, he sucks. He has no value at $20m.

a7tex said...

1st of the 20 million has nothin to do with the rest of baseball cuz he's homegorown. They didnt "buy him". But ya 3 errors on the year and with imrpvoed range hes just terrible.

Greg Cohen said...

Someone desperately needs to run into one. Just get on the board and wake this team up.

JC said...

Does anyone know the record for most men left on base in a nine-inning game?

I'm curious what it is. Probably in the high 20s...

Anonymous said...

This hurts, seeing this team struggle so much of late hurts. Going out and buying the best available is awesome, but when the team doesn't produce..it hurts.

I will still love this team to death even if they don't win a single game over the next 20 years.

But this shit hurts, and it's embarrasing ... I want to like fucking cry this shits so bad !!

At least Guidry had young Yankee pitchers looking like they were ready for the next level. Ever since Eiland got his hand back on them, total regression. Girardi is just not a good manager. Maybe he would have been if he actually had paid his dues around baseball before getting the keys to the executive's bathroom, but he's not cut out for this job in NY.
After Harlem's earlier comment, I'm convinced he got his job because he went along with the hatchet job on Torre, doing his part from the booth in burying him.

Anonymous said...

Girardi might not be a good manager. This team was doing this garbage under Torre. This is an old team.

More importantly, Cashman is not a good GM.

Greg Cohen said...

I totally agree about Guidry.

Remember, Guidry wasn't Cashman's guy, he was Torre's. Cashman didn't think Guidry was a good coach.

JC said...

The team was streaky under Torre in from '05 to '07, but they made the playoffs every year....

That's the difference.

Anonymous said...

Man that Posada is awesome, huh Dan? The bum can't even run it out.

But, but, but, his .308 average is going to help us...blah...blah...blah. Posada is awful and this team is awful since POSada came off the DL and took the mojo away from this team.

Lets see, we were bad with Posada BEFORE his injury. We were great without Posada during his injury. And, we are bad witn Posada AFTER his injury. Pretty telling....

Anonymous said...

Another loss to an under .500 team, how has Girardi/Cashman and Eiland made it this long. Obviously The REAL Steinbrenner has no idea whats going on, becaue if he did, all of them would have been axed by now ... this team needs a fire lit under it's ass and obviously none of them can do that job.

JC said...

Well, at least we kinda solved the leaving-me-on-base problem....

We won't even get men on base instead!!

Anonymous said...

Again, SO WHAT!

I know what they friggin did in 05-07. WTF do not think I dont know this garbage?

They did NOT win a playoff series under Torre in that time and they were awful with hitting with RISP. And, that was 4 years ago. And, this DUMBASS organization led by DUMBASS Cashman still has the SAME old men collecting paychecks and killing this team. And, now they are 4 years older, fatter, slower and richer. DUH. Actually DOUBLE FUCKING DUH!

JC said...

Jesus Christ, Anon... Even when I'm pissed as hell at the Yankees, I still hate your arrogant ass.

JC said...

Well, I'd like to congratulate the Yanks on yet another piss-poor performance.

Brave, boys... Bravo.

Greg Cohen said...

Yea, that was pretty pathetic.

Anonymous said...

What did the .302 hitting Jeter do in the 9th? Oh, nothing as usual.

No, you hate Jesus Christ. You stupid Roman Catholic cake eater.

Danny said...

Since when does Jeter not hitting with RISP have anything to do with hating Christ. Besides that I thought Roman Catholics ate cake caused they loved Jesus. Anon you probably have Kathy Bates screaming in your head that cake is the devil, don't you?

JC said...

>> No, you hate Jesus Christ. You stupid Roman Catholic cake eater. <<

LOL! What the fuck?

I'm actually not religious at all, so feel free to call me silly religious names....

Danny said...

I would like to file a protest with MLB tomorrow. I'm protesting the results of the managerial hiring process of the New York Yankees in 2007, on the basis of gross incompetence of all parties involved, and asking for a do over.

Anonymous said...

Stick a fork in them, they're done! Start trading for some real talent.

Anonymous said...

I agree with Danny, I want a do over too!

Anonymous said...

Blame Girardi its his fault Posada struck out 4 times and Jeter keeps GIDP. A-Rod looks lost at the plate.

daneptizl said...

I'm glad I wasn't here to watch this mess.

Anonymous said...

No way in hell this team makes the playoffs. In fact I could see them finishing fourth in the East. Time to burn down the house and start over....

Anonymous said...

The team I think is still in lead for the wild card. I still think they will make the playoffs. But they need to turn it around soon and get on a good run before the allstar break.
