7/19 Minor League Report

================

We are lucky enough to have a SWB report from BigGuy tonight.
He won't be doing these all the time by when he does I will
post them. Thanks BG for the great contributions.

(Triple-A) Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (52-38) lost to Gwinnett (50-45) 5-3: Box Score - Recap

The SWB Yankees lost to the Gwinett Braves by a 5-3 score. Ivan Nova suffered his 1st AAA loss, and Francisco Cervelli homered. The Yanks record is not at 52-38. The 1st place Yanks have a 4 game lead over Syracuse.

PITCHING: Ivan Nova got the start for the Yankees. Nova hadn't pitched in a week due to the all star break and was not sharp in this game. He started out well throwing a perfect 1st, getting 2 K's and a groundout. He worked out of a jam in the 2nd after a single and wild pitch. A nice play on an out at the plate on a relay throw from Ramiro Pena to Francisco Cervelli was a key play in the inning.

The Braves took a 2-0 lead in the 3rd on a walk, rbi double, and rbi triple. Nova's struggles continued in the 4th. 2 singles, a hit batter, and rbi double scored 2 runs. A walk loaded the bases. Followed by an rbi single with a runner thrown out at the plate, scored the 3rd run of the inning to give the Braves a 5-2 lead at that point. He was relieved after the 4th. Nova picked up his 1st AAA loss (1-1). Nova's line: 4.0 IP, 5 runs, 7 hits, 4 K's--3 walks, 94 pitches---55 strikes, 5 groundouts--2 flyouts.

Mike Dunn, making his 2nd AAA appearance since being promoted from Trenton, came in to pitch the 5th. He got the first 2 batters on strikeouts. A walk, stolen base and throwing error by Cervelli, put the runner at 3rd. Another walk and groundout stranded the runner. Dunn started the 6th. He gave up a walk and single and was relieved.

Amaury Sanit relieved Dunn in the 6th with runners on 1st and 2nd and 1 out. Sanit threw 1 pitch to get a double play and get out of the jam. Sanit threw a scoreless 7th after giving up a leadoff bloop single.

Jonathan Albabladejo came on to pitch perfect 8th and 9th innings, picking up 1 strikeout.

OFFENSE: John Halama got the start for the Braves. The Yanks down 2-0 in the 3rd, tied the score on a single by Colin Curtis, rbi double by Yurendell de Caster, sac bunt by Doug Bernier, and RBI sac fly by Kevin Russo. The Yanks threatened in the 4th when Austin Jackson walked and moved up to 3rd on 2 ground outs but was stranded. Francisco Cervelli hit a solo homer in the 7th to cut the Braves lead to 5-3. Cervelli's homer gives him a 6 game hit streak. SWB threatened in the 8th when Russo walked and Jackson singled, but they were stranded.

NOTES: Juan Miranda left the game with an injury. Coming into this game Ivan Nova had not given up more than 2 runs in his previous 10 games at AA and AAA.
