Right-hander Sergio Mitre posted a 0.61 ERA in a League-leading 14.2 innings for the week, while finishing 2nd with 12 strikeouts. Mitre faced the Buffalo Bisons in back-to-back starts, allowing just one run – a solo homer by Javier Castillo. Unfortunately for Mitre, that run cost him a victory on Tuesday,as he left with the game tied 1-1 after 6.2 innings. Mitre had surrendered just five hits and two walks while striking out seven, but the Yankee offense didn’t break the game open until the 11th inning. Mitre was even better in his start yesterday against the Bisons, tossing 8.0 shutout innings and holding Buffalo to six hits while striking out five. Mitre is still less than a year removed from Tommy John surgery. In seven starts with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season, he is now 3-1 with a 2.40 ERA.Congrat Sergio, see you in The Bronx.

Future 5th Starter Named IL Pitcher of the Week
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre starter and hopefully the next fifth starter for the Yanks (GET ACEVES BACK IN THE PEN!) Sergio Mitre was named International League pitcher of the week today. This is from MiLB.com's press release (hat-tip to Chad Jennings):

They should give him a shot. Maybe he comes in and stablizes the rotation. i hope they bring him up and lets see what he can do . if he is competent, maybe we won't need to make a big expensive trade and Yanks can hold on to the group of young prospects performing so well in Trenton and Scranton.
Maybe we catch some lightning in the bottle with him and gets on a run of 2 or 3 great starts.
Congrats to him
I'm gunna get crucified for this but bring him up and send down Joba. I think he needs a little more seasoning and a bit of an attitude adjustment. I understand needing to move forward from a bad start but I think he is getting a little too comfortable for a young and unproven starter. We know what he can do but he is not doing it consistantly.
That's actually not a terrible idea but I think you wait and see. First they need a fifth starter. Then if Joba has a few more bad starts and Ivan Nova or somebody is dominating AAA, then you consider it. Not yet though. Two bad starts isn't enough to go on.
Hey Mike, it's definitely a possibility if he keeps going like he's going. You can't keep giving away games. But I agree, not yet.
By the way, check your gmail.
Greg, I don't have any messages from you
