It was another comeback victory for the Yankees in the Bronx as they were able to score four times in the bottom of the eighth to beat the Jays 7-5. They trailed 4-3 going into the inning, but Hideki Matsui led of the inning with a long home run deep into the bleachers in right field to tie the game. The next batter was Jorge Posada and he hits a towering opposite field drive to right that just made it into the first row of seats to give the Yanks a 5-4 lead. It was the third straight game that the Yankees hit back-to-back homers, the first time that's happened since 1983.

The Yanks would eventually score two more runs in the inning on RBI singles by Melky Cabrera and Johnny Damon, extending their lead to 7-4.

Mariano Rivera came in for the save and got into a little trouble before closing the door on his 34th save. He would allow a homer to Edwin Encarnacion and a then hit to Rod Barajas to bring the tying run to the plate before finally striking out Marco Scutaro to end the game. It was the 29th straight converted save.

Joba Chamberlain got the start for the Yanks tonight and looked a lot like the Joba we all saw in the first half. High pitch counts, bad command, poor results. It was another one of those starts where it looked like he and Jorge Posada couldn't get on the same page - a lot of conversations between the two, and Joba had no rhythm on the mound. In 6 innings Joba allowed four runs on five hits, walked two and struck out five. He threw 103 pitches on the night 64 for strikes.

The Yanks handed him a 3-0 lead after two innings but he gave that all back in the top of the third. Lyle Overbay came through with the big blow, a bases clearing double with the bases loaded and two out. Joba then gave up a solo homer to Randy Ruiz in the fourth to extend the Jays lead to 4-2.

Like most youngsters Joba is having problems being consistent. It happens. The important thing is that the Yanks won tonight. Hopefully Joba can figure out what happened and get back to being the pitcher we saw in the three starts after the break.

It was another very good night for the Yankees bullpen, and specifically the bridge to Mariano. Brian Bruney, thought he gave up a couple loud outs, pitched a scoreless seventh. Phil Coke game on in the eighth to face two lefties - Adam Lind and Lyle Overbay - and he retired them both. David Robertson came in for the final out of the eighth, which was good enough for him to pick up his second win of the year.

Even with the 5.5 game lead tonight was a big win for the Yanks. The last thing they need to do is give Boston a reason to believe. Boston had a big brawl tonight and then came back from a 3-0 deficit to beat Detroit 7-5. Those are the types of wins that bring a team together, so it's important that the Yanks keep winning.

Tomorrow's rubber game is an afternoon affair with the first pitch set for 1:05 p.m. A.J. Burnett will get the ball for the Yanks, with southpaw Rickey Romero starting for the Jays.

Joba was pitch well except for that bad 3rd inning. Good thing is after the 3rd he didn't get too frustrated and gave the team 6 innings a lot of young pitchers cant do that.

THe yankees skipping and moving his starts around are going to mess with him. He had 3 great starts and then they start moving him around and start skipping him, they are taking him out of his rhythm.

Posada said: “It’s tough what he’s been going through. He doesn’t know when he’s going to pitch. It’s tough to mentally put it all together. I think he’s doing everything he can to stay focused, but it’s tough.”

Another nice effort by the bullpen. Bruney is looking a lot better. The game in Chicago is when I've seen his command get been much better. Before that he kept falling behind into 3-1 or 2-0 counts and then threw a fastball right down the middle and got hit. Having his power arm will be a great addition down the stretch.

Coke is good has a lefty specialist. He has a 3.10 era off leftys and a 7.71 era of rightys. Left handed batters are only hitting 202 off him. Girardi needs to stop using him against right handed hitters.

And Robertson is doing a nice job looks like Girardi is gaining more confidence in him.

All I know is that watching Youklis first throw his helmet at the pitcher like a pussy, and then get tossed was the highlight of my night, behind the comeback obviously

Nice to see the Yanks come back and win this one but I couldn't help but think that Posada's homer would have been caught about 7 feet in front of the wall at the old Stadium.

As for Youkilis, not only did he throw his helmet like a wuss, but then he still got thrown to the ground like a rag doll.

How embarrassing. lol

I was at the game. Surprised how packed it was for a Tuesday night game. Place got pretty loud with the back to back homers. Go Yanks!

Let's give the guy some credit, he got through six solid innings and gave his team a chance to win.

Consistency is the problem with Joba but he's still a young guy. Unless you're Tim Lincecum, of course he's going to be inconsistent.

I just saw the lineup for today's day game, here's the perfect chance to put Cano in the #3 hole, JG is giving Tex the day off, put Cano in the 3 hole ahead of AROD, see what he can do, but no, put matsui there,
