News & Notes

- In 8 starts against the Red Sox, CC Sabathia is 2-5, with a 4.07 ERA. He faced them once as a Yankeee and took the loss back on 6/11 at Fenway. That night he lasted 7 innings, and allowed 4 runs on 6 hits, walked 2 and struck out 6.

- Clay Buchholz has made two starts against the Yankees in his career and is 0-0 with a 7.45 ERA. In the game at Fenway last April he held the Yanks to just 1 run on 4 hits in 6 innings. But less than a week later at the Stadium the Yanks scored 7 runs on 8 hits off him in just 3.2 innings.

- The Yanks have won five in a row and are 4.5 games ahead of Boston in the AL East. And at 67-42 they now have the best record in all of baseball.

- Since losing two out of three to the Nationals from June 16-18, the Yankees are 16-3 at home. Overall they're 37-17 in the Bronx which is tied for best home record in the game with the San Francisco Giants.

- Boston is just 7-12 in their last 19 games, 24-22 since June 13th, and just 27-29 on the road.

- Mariano Rivera has converted 31-of-32 save opportunities this season. In save situations has an ERA of just 0.81. He's converted 27 straight saves which is the longest such streak in the Majors.

UPDATE: 3:17 p.m.: Josh Towers has been called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. To make room on the roster Mark Melancon has been optioned down. I liked what I was seeing from Melancon and don't think he should be sent down. Either way, they need a rested arm, so it's Towers. Brian Bruney, Phil Coke, and Alfredo Aceves are unavailable today. Damaso Marte was also placed on the 60-day DL.

Stick around and discuss the game
as it happens in the comments section.

glad to see the yankees haven't ended their tradition of rewarding good play with a trip to the minors...not

Towers will be sent down tommorow for Gaudin.

Too bad about Melancon he has been throwing the ball well lately. It is probably better for him though to be in scranton. He is not getting regular work. You cant have a young arm like Melancon just rot on the bench. Girardi was using him as kind of a long man he is way too talented for that role. He will be up in September and I think he will be in the yankees bullpen next year right out of spring training.

lol @ Youkilis in left.

Typical Jeter. Ho hum another GIDP from Mr. $20m. Make sure you resign him Cashman for a billion dollars. Its your trademark.

JC said...

Dude, shut the fuck up. No one likes you. The guy's hitting .320 and have a great season. Go whack it in your mom's basement again.

crossfire said...

you're such a miserable jackass it makes me laugh. lol

crossfire said...

Obviously that was aimed at Anon and not you JC.

Greg Cohen said...

He's just a red sox troll. Ignore the idiot.

Mike R. said...

Is this the beginning of C.C. the ace?

Greg Cohen said...

That would be nice.

Is Joe Buck giving anyone else a head ache?

Anonymous said...

And, I dont like you. You are blind, deaf and dumb.

He's having a great season hitting singles. Wow, that is really worth $20m per. Mediocre defense, doesn't drive in enough runs and hits into a ton of DP's. Why $20m?

Why is that YOU all hate facts so much?

2 men on every inning and they do nothing with it. Well except hit into DP's. Well at least Jeter can't hit into a DP next inning since she's leading off.

Mike R. said...

Not enough RBI's? He's adamn leadoff hitter! He's also a huge reason the Yankees have won anything over the past 13 years. He's also the second best SS in the AL according to UZR/150. How about you shut the **** up and look at the facts!

crossfire said...

Settle down crybaby... back to mommy's basement again. lol

Greg Cohen said...

How do you call that a ball when a guy has a perfect game going on?

Mike R. said...

The same pitch twice!

Brian Danuff said...

Those 2-2 and 3-2 pitches to Ortiz were strikes, no doubt about it.

At least the walk was all as he sruck out J.D. Drew for the 3rd out.

Mike R. said...

To tell you the truth, they could have gone either way. Buchholz hasn't been getting the calls either.

chris said...

Wow, nice umpiring. And Mike R: The ball four to Ortiz, according to gamecast, totally caught the plate. Buchholz is getting plenty of calls, especially ones that are totally on the plate like that one was.

Greg Cohen said...

You gotta love Yankees fans with the Youk chant.

Mario said...

just got home from the tax free shopping weekend here in NC, to see CC lose the perfect game with a questionable call on ball 4, I see anonymous has reared his ugly mouth & ignorant comments, dude go jump into the hudson, anonymous, i'm sure you could be the "best" GM in the world,

Mario said...

must be something in the water up htere in "new england" everyones bald with fugly growths on there chins...

Mike R. said...

Alright chris, that's the last time I trust McCarver ;).

I am just sick of hearing 2004 this, 2004 that. The Yankees need a defining moment against the Red Sox to quiet the critics. I hope this moment comes in the playoffs.

chris said...

Haha, that was your first mistake Mike

I can't stand that we keep letting Laptop burglar off the hook here.

Mario said...

if you wanna complain about an albatross contract, the resigning of AROD for the rest of his lifetime, worth a gazillion dollars...

Anonymous said...

Re-friggin-diculous! This is the same old garbage against the Red Sox except for the 1st game. They SUCK at hitting with RISP. They will NOT win a friggin playoff series doing this crap.

Mike R. said...

Even if Matsui doesn't come through, he has earned my trust again. He's much more consistent than a couple of months ago. Glad to see him come through.

Anonymous said...

Yes, Arods contracts sucks and was stupid. Cashman is a idiot. We already know that. There is not a GM who does less with more than Brian Cashman.

Emmanuel said...

We really got Buchholz working, don't see how much longer he can go.

chris said...

Oh my god can you guys sit on an off speed pitch just once today?

Mike R. said...

I spoke too soon. Oh well/

Mike R. said...

Yeah, Cashman's such a dope with the best record in the entire league.

Laptops4cheap said...

Hey guys I'm going to go steal some laptops between innings who's with me?

Mike R. said...

Well, they're winning against the wild card team doing this crap ;)

Mike R. said...

Well, they're winning against the wild card team doing this crap ;)

Anonymous said...

Of course they can't. They're too stupid. This team wont do anything in the playoffs.

I dont care if they have the best record, I dont care if they finish 1st place. It doesn't matter. Not hitting with RISP has been this teams downfall for years. This team is no different. Now, they are even older and more reliant on the same OLD group of overpaid hacks.

This team will not beat good playoff teams period on a consistent basis. They will not beat the Angels and they will not beat Boston. Simple as that.

WAy to go Cashman, same as always with you.

chris said...

lmfao anon, you are a total spaz

grow some testicles and use a name

Anonymous said...

Your post shows you how dumb you are. They're beating Boston at home after going 0-8 and your applauding this? Friggin hilarious. You probably applaud our moronic, inexperienced communist president too.

Anonymous said...

I'll do whatever I want whenever I want. You stupid fuckign DEMONcrab bully.

chris said...

wow, a rocket blast by elsbury to break up the no-no... a blast that almost stopped one inch into the outfield grass.

chris said...

lmao what the hell does the president have to do with the Yankees you horse ass. You're a total spaz. The Yankees have the best record in the AL, best run differential in the AL, and you're worried about something (the "0-8") against the Red Sox in May. haha dolt.

Greg Cohen said...

Anon, seriously, shut up. We all know you're just angry that your Red Sox are losing.

Mike R. said...

Alright folks, we watch baseball for the enjoyment of it, not for this crap. No point of responding to this ****. Let's just enjoy the game.

Greg Cohen said...

Need some runs. This is too close for comfort, especially in this ballpark.

chris said...

that a way Robinson, time for some more runs here, let's do it

Mike R. said...

Small ball at its best.

Greg Cohen said...

Come on Molina, just hit the damn ball in the air.

Greg Cohen said...

NICE JOB JOSE!

Mike R. said...

Getting Molina a few years back was a wonderful moce. When use sparingly, he can hit. He also has a good arm and calls a great game. Certainly an upgrade over Stinett and Fasano!

Mike R. said...

meant move in my previous post.

Will said...

this series is starting to make up for the 0-8 start. the pitching has been really solid, the lineup still has some clutch hitting issues to work on however.

Mike R. said...

Who's looking forward to football? I am!

chris said...

omg yes HUGE double play right there SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET

crossfire said...

what a nice DP by Jeter!

Brian Danuff said...

What a play by the Captain!

Jeter turns a double play that gets CC out of a jam in the 7th.

Still 2-0 Yanks.

chris said...

I'm looking forward to football too Mike - I always do. Baseball is far and away my favorite sport, but I love watching my Giants every Sunday. Football is great.

chris said...

Time for some insurance right here gentlemen

chris said...

Is it just my FOX, or does the screen framereate get choppy on the main home plate camera? It's like it gets jittery but only from the CF to home view

crossfire said...

Anon... seriously... you should go upstairs and punch yo mama right in the face for taking you off the teet too early and making you a crybaby bitch.

Then go kick your papa right in the balls for making you a dumb friggin' red sux fan.

Then go back in their basement and cry some more. LOL

chris said...

That is totally the correct move tossing him out of the game right there. He threw at Teixeira's head, and now threw at A-Rod's head. I don't care what the score is, he's trying to intimidate the Yankee hitters, whether or not he's trying to him A-Rod, he's gone dangerously up and in on our two best hitters.

When Joba threw two pitches up and in on Youkilis, he got fined and suspended.

crossfire said...

Martinez also had words with the ump too just before the pitch.

Mario said...

i disagree with the pitcher getting tossed there, umps are too quick to toss people, i wasn't alive during bob gibson's days, but come on, its the wussifcation of america , pitchers aren't allowed to come inside without being fined, susupended, or tossed from games, come on, let em play

Mike R. said...

A-Rod's been thrown at twice today. They've thrown at Tex's and Melky's head too. Not getting away with that Pedro bull anymore. Although I wish we could see A-Rod stand up to the catcher again, Varitek or no Varitek.

Mario said...

perfect chance for some insurance right here, bottom 7th, matsui nice double would be freaking awesome

chris said...

Mario - I agree to an extent, but the thing is that the game has changed, and we can't let the Red Sox live with a double standard. Pitchers get tossed now for throwing at guys heads, and the Red Sox went up and in - right at heads, too many times. A-Rod got almost plunked in the back earlier in the game, Tex got one under his chin, and finally A-Rod got plunked up high. That's one too many. You can't let them get away with head hunting pitching like that, whether they were trying to hit us or not.

Brian Danuff said...

Bases loaded for Cano!

chris said...

Come on Robinson, a little insurance would be nice

Brian Danuff said...

Right chris.

A.J. threw at Nelson Cruz's head unintentionally back in May and he was suspended 5 games. It should be the same for every pitcher, unintentionall or not.

Brian Danuff said...

3-2 count now. Come on Cano, put the game away!

chris said...

crap.

Brian Danuff said...

Cano grounds into a force at home, bases reloaded with 2 outs for Swish.

chris said...

Come on Swish, pick him up

Mario said...

cano's situational hitting is fugly

chris said...

A walk would be nice...

Brian Danuff said...

3-0 on Swish.

I want to get a little greedy here. Joe should greenlight him.

chris said...

Oh man Swish just missed that one, good thing it was out of play... come on, let's get an insurance run or two

Brian Danuff said...

Now it's back to 3-2, come on Swish!!!!

Brian Danuff said...

Swish walks, 3-0 Yanks!!

chris said...

YES BALL FOUR that's a huge insurance run right there, awesome job Swish

JC said...

The new stadium this series sounds just as loud as the old one. Thank God!!

Brian Danuff said...

Come on Melk, start pouring it on.

chris said...

oh screw you Kotchman, he still thinks he's playing for the Angels the way he plays against us... and why on earth is he guarding the line against Melky? Melky spreads the ball around, and they shouldn't be worried about a double, but the single in the hole that puts the game away. Weird.

Brian Danuff said...

JC,

You're right. When I went last night I could have sworn I was across the street, because it was tremendously loud when A-Rod hit the HR.

Well, Crotchman made a nice play on Melky, so it'll stay 3-0 Yanks.

chris said...

I don't know if I agree with leaving CC in there at 112 pitches

chris said...

Oh thank you very much, line out to Cano, 5 outs to go

Greg Cohen said...

He's still dealing. Let him finish this inning and call it a GREAT day. If he gives up a base runner take him out.

chris said...

YES koochyman Ks, 4 outs to go

CC done, outstanding game big guy

chris said...

Hughes just doing his thing, strikes out Green on 4 pitches, all gas, no chance

3 outs to go

crossfire said...

Hughes comes in throwing nothing but gas!

Sweet!!!

chris said...

The crowd harassing Youkilis is hilarious... I'd love to be sitting down in the LF corner and be hearing it right now

chris said...

Jeter taking it down the RF line for a two run blast, and that should do it, 5-0 Yanks

crossfire said...

Way to go Captain!!!

chris said...

Ellsbury's swing annoys me the way he falls over the plate after the swing

Mario said...

WTF why take hughes out, top of the lineup and u bring in robertson, i dont like it AT ALL

Mario said...

a game when u should only have to use 2 pitchers, & hughes only pitched 1/3 of last nights marathon..

Mario said...

girardi needs "BULLPENS FOR DUMMIES"

Mario said...

girardi needs "BULLPENS FOR DUMMIES"

chris said...

Why the HELL hasn't Roberston thrown a SINGLE curve ball yet? What is going on... 12 pitches, 11 fastballs, and one changeup. His curve is his bread and butter pitch and he hasn't used it once. I don't get it.

chris said...

Finally a curve, one out to go, let's get it done Robertson

chris said...

One strike to go

Don't forget post-game show on YES today

crossfire said...

GAME OVER!!!

chris said...

YES, ballgame over Yankees win theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Yankees win

Greg Cohen said...

NICE WIN. CC WAS AWESOME.. 5 1/2 games up! I'm pretty damn happy right now.

Mike R. said...

Perfectly appropriate that Big Sloppy makes the final out and cries his way out of the stadium. I felt sad for Smoltz and even Tazawa, but I live off of this liar's frustration! Great job believing in Robertson. That will do wonders for his confidence. And Hughes is available tomorrow. My guess is that Girardi didn't want to use him for 2 innings every game.

Mario said...

24 STRAIT scoreless innings vs boston, love it, love it,

Mike R. said...

Butt wee kant beet dem inn da playoffz!

crossfire said...

Somewhere down in his mommy's basement, Anon weeps.

i wonder if the Red Sox owner will tweet about our offseason

Greg Cohen said...

lol he's been pretty quietly lately. I really hope they complete the sweep. That would be too sweet.

After this series the Yanks sit 6.5 games ahead of boston leaving Boston tied for the wild card lead and the Yankees with the best record in all of MLB. Time for the BoSox to worry?

With A-Rod and Tex on a roll its gonna be hard to stop those boys.
