News & Notes

- The Yanks have won five in a row, 12 out of 13, 36 of their last 47, are 7.5 games ahead of Boston in the AL East, and at 74-43 they have the best record in all of baseball.

- Since the All-Star break the Yankees are 23-6, which is their best second half start in franchise history.

- According to Peter Abraham, Hideki Matsui is out indefinitely due to some fluid in his left knee. He may have to have the knee drained. He also is reporting that Joe Girardi said he wants to give Mariano Rivera some rest and he may not be available today.

- In five games (one start) Joba Chamberlain is 1-0 with a 3.60 ERA against the Mariners. He's only made one appearence in Seatlle, and in 0.2 innings he allowed a run on 3 hits, did not walk a batter, and struck out 1.

He made his only start against the M's back on June 30th of this year, and in 5.1 innings allowed 3 runs on 9 hits, walked 3, and struck out 4 in a no decision.

- Today will be Doug Fister's second career major league start.

- Mariano Rivera has converted 35-of-36 save opportunities this season. He's converted 31 straight saves which is the longest such streak in the Majors.

- The Yankees have won five of the six games against the Mariners this year.

- At 33-25 the Yankees have the second best road record in the AL. The Angels are first at 33-23.

- Derek Jeter has 2,672 career hits, which is one away from Hall of Famer Luis Aparicio for most career hits by a shortstop.

- On this date in 1948 Babe Ruth passed away.

Boston is losing 4-3 in the bottom of the 7th.

The Rangers need some more runs. I don't trust their bullpen at all.

Derek Jeter has just become the all-time leader for hits by a shortstop with an RBI double. 1-0 Yankees.

Vinsanity13 said...

And you should have trusted their bullpen. 8 games ahead for now. I we can manage to pull this thing off, 8.5 could be a pretty good cushion before Fenway. Let's take 2 out of 3 in Oakland and then not be swept in Beantown.

We should feel reaaaaally good about things right now. The Red Sox are not what they used to be the last 4 or 5 years, they just don't seem to be able to go over themselves and win the games that have to be won. Wouldn't surprise me if the Rangers ran away with the WC, let's help them with the series in Boston!

Go Bombers, Go Joba.

Greg Cohen said...

lol nice win for the Rangers.

Fucking shit Joba.... mix your pitches! Everything is a damn fastball.

Greg Cohen said...

He's got to minimize the damage.

Greg Cohen said...

And he couldn't do it. 4-3 Mariners. An absolutely pathetic outing by Joba so far. He's not throwing strikes, and this team can't hit to save their lives. Awful.

Mario said...

had a feeling we'd lose today unless joba went 7 strong, which he obviously couldn't, pathetic....

Mario said...

hope we can have some late inning magic again, with boston losing, with only 43 loses so far, that still only 5 better then the 98 team that lost 48 all season.. just makes that team that much more unbelieveable

Brian Danuff said...

Hey guys, wats up?

Just a bad start for Joba today. He really looked like his May/June/early July form where he would get ahead of hitters and then end up walking them. He also ran his pitch count up early as every start.

Hopefully the Yankee offense can pick up the slack. They haven't been that good either. We need another comeback, I really want that 8.5 game lead.

Brian Danuff said...

Runners at the corners now with 2 outs, Johnny Damon coming up.

Mario said...

seattle has lived on 2 out rbi hits today, come on damon, we need one now

Mario said...

thanks damon u loser

Brian Danuff said...

Shit. Damon just missed beating it out too. Still 4-3. We got 3-4-5 coming up in the 8th so we still got a shot.

In the words of Yogi: It ain't over till it's over.

Greg Cohen said...

Hey YB.... The Yanks pen has to keep this at a one-run lead. If they can do that I like our chances. Hopefully Fister's day in done.

Brian Danuff said...

Same here. We got Teix and A-Rod due up next inning so we still got a shot.

Brian Danuff said...

WTF was that! Hairston thought it was like a home run and it fell 10 feet in front of him?

Greg Cohen said...

Hairston showing off his inexperience in center.

Greg Cohen said...

YB, check your email.

Brian Danuff said...

He may be able to play a lot of positions, but I think the Yanks should not start him in CF. he should be limited to right, left, and the infield positions. Hopefully Gardy comes back soon so we don't have to put Jerry in CF.

Greg Cohen said...

Aceves has looked rusty today. Maybe five days off isn't the best idea.

Brian Danuff said...

Yeah. He better get out of this.

Brian Danuff said...

Gaudin warming up...

Brian Danuff said...

1 out

Anonymous said...

Damon is a terrible LFer.

Greg Cohen said...

Well there's one out... Come on Ace!

... A pop up on the infield would be great right about now.

Greg Cohen said...

Yes, he is, Anon.

Greg Cohen said...

OK, now he needs a DP.

Brian Danuff said...

Come on now Ace, DP.

Brian Danuff said...

Nice block by Posada. Saved Griffey from scoring.

Brian Danuff said...

2-2 now.

Brian Danuff said...

Steeeeeeeerike 3! 2 outs in the inning.

Greg Cohen said...

That's a big strikeout... Now he just needs one more.

Brian Danuff said...

F***. Ace hits a batter, 5-3.

Greg Cohen said...

And he hits in a runner to face Ichiro. What the hell was that?

Brian Danuff said...

He's not facing Ichiro - Gaudin is. He better get him out, another hit and we're screwed.

Anonymous said...

Aceves stinks.

Anonymous said...

aceves is homo

Brian Danuff said...

Anon what's the matter? Sad the Red Sox lost?

Brian Danuff said...

Damn. 7-3. We'll you can't win 'em all.

Greg Cohen said...

And now Teixeira's absence at first bites us in the ass. Everything Girardi has done today has been an epic failure. Moving up Joba, Hairston in center, and now Swisher at first.

Greg Cohen said...

That should just about do it for today.

Anonymous said...

This Chad Gaudin is not all that good, the new Jose Veras.

Greg Cohen said...

Yea, where was Phil Coke to face the left-handed Ichiro? Add that to Girardi's mistake list for the day.

Anonymous said...

Wow. I fall asleep when we have the lead and wake up when we're getting shelled, back to that dream now...hahaha.

JC said...

Let me guess....

This is all Posada's fault?

Anonymous said...

Well, no, but does any other catcher allow double digit runs as much as Posada? I dont think so. Its a 5-3 game if Damon can play LF at all. He should not be resigned to play LF period.
