News & Notes

- The Yanks are 27-9 since the All-Star break, they've won 40 of their last 54, and at 78-46 they have the best record in all of baseball. They currently lead Boston by 7 games in the AL East.

- Joba Chamberlain has faced the Rangers three times - all starts - in his career and is 0-0, with a 7.11 ERA. Since the all-star break he is 4-1 with a 3.35 ERA in six starts since. He made one of those starts this season, on May 26th in Texas, and in just 4 innings he allowed 3 runs on 4 hits, walked 4, and struck out 5.

- In eight career starts against the Yankees Kevin Millwood is 1-4, with a 4.50 ERA. Three of those starts came at the old stadium, where he went 1-1, also with a 4.50 ERA. He faced them once this year, back on May 26th, and took a no decision. In 5.2 innings pitched he allowed 3 runs on 9 hits, walked 4 and struck out 3.

- The Bronx Bombers are a MLB best 41-18 at home.

- Mariano Rivera has converted 36-of-37 save opportunities this season. He's converted 32 straight saves which is the longest such streak in the Majors, and the longest of Mo's hall of fame career.

- The Yankees have beaten the Rangers four of out of the six times they've played this season.

- Derek Jeter went 21-for-43 on the road trip and is just 20 hits shy of Lou Gehrig's all-time Yankee mark.

- In non-Yankees news, Johan Santana will have season-ending surgery on his elbow. He is expected to be ready for spring training next year.

jeter was safe, his hand was in there, of course the ump can't see in the stupid position he's in

crossfire said...

Matsui!!!

Greg Cohen said...

It's really a shame that Joba has no idea how to pitch with the kind of stuff he has. Oh well, at least if they lose it hurts Boston.

Anonymous said...

Joba sucks, they should have traded him when he has some value.

Margo said...

I'm sorry, Joba is just average at best. Would you be comfortable with him pitching in the playoffs? I sure wouldn't.

Mario said...

JOBA doing his usual, I know these are growing pains with a young starter, but isn't it time for him to grow up, MAN UP, something, @83 pitches already, & 4th inning still going,

Greg Cohen said...

Anon, I don't know about all that, but he has stunk tonight.

Margo, no, not at this point in his career.

Posada catching

11 runs vs. Boston
14 runs vs. Boston

Molina catching
4 runs vs. Boston

Back to Posada catching

already 7 runs catching.

Posada sucks as a catcher. There is no way around it. And he is now allowing 5.46 runs per 9 IP with this staff! Horrible.

crossfire said...

Anon, go back to mommy's basement... you are an idiot.

Mario said...

having to watch/listen to the rangers broadcast, is almost as painful as the game itself... Carlos Pena has hit 2 more HR's, now @ 37, come on TEX, guess this is JOBA"s way of getting back at yankee brass for "HIS RULES"...

Greg Cohen said...

White Sox just took a 3-2 lead over Boston. Honestly folks, losing tonight wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

Hitler said...

I agree with anon. He's smart. Posada does suck.

Greg Cohen said...

Do you think it's funny that you use the name of one of civilization's worst criminals?

Hitler said...

Fine i'll use another bad name.

Greg Cohen said...

You've got serious issues.

Yankees said...

This is the worst name that I can think of. And it's the worst name in history.

Greg Cohen said...

lol... you're an idiot.

Yankees said...

No you do.

Yankees said...

No you are

Hows it going?

Greg Cohen said...

Pretty good, yourself?

Liam Gallagher said...

Oh my freakin god Hitler get the hell out of here!

Liam Gallagher said...

Nothing really. I'm just yelling at some retard.

Liam Gallagher said...

I start school next Monday.

Greg Cohen said...

Oh, sorry to hear that.

Liam Gallagher said...

lol. I'm in 9th grade. Just another 4 years. Then another four years in college.

Capone said...

Anyone else concerned about the way they're handling Joba?

Mario said...

thank god we didnt' give up anything for this gaudin punk, he sucks somehting awful, I'd rather see mitre out there, or someone up from AAA,

Liam Gallagher said...

I agree Mario.

I'm gonna go now. See ya guys.

Mario said...

i know we don't ever give up, but this one looks all but over

Greg Cohen said...

I'm not concerned about how they're handling Joba, I'm concerned with how Joba is handling himself. He seems like a stubborn mental midget.

And yes, Gaudin blows.

Liam Gallagher said...

Agreed.

I'm back!

rob said...

lets go yanks, i wanna see another walkoff win!

Liam Gallagher said...

Same here.

Greg Cohen said...

I love the optimism but I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Greg Cohen said...

Boston now leads Chicago 6-3 in the bottom of the 8th. So that's ones over.

Liam Gallagher said...

We still have a nice lead in the divsion. So I don't care if we lose this one.

Brian Danuff said...

Well what are you gonna do. All great teams loose games.

We just gotta hope we comeback tomorrow and win the next 2 games.

Greg Cohen said...

Honestly, neither do I.

Greg Cohen said...

Hey YB.

Brian Danuff said...

Was up.

Greg Cohen said...

Nothing much... just working on the minor league report. John Murphy is off to a really nice start with the GCL Yanks. He's hitting .389/.450/.611 with a homer and 4 RBI in his first 5 pro games.

Liam Gallagher said...

Nice. Great to read that Murphy has a nice start. Did Heathcott play?

Brian Danuff said...

Cool, hopefully a start of many things to come.

Greg Cohen said...

Yea he went 0-for-4.

Brian Danuff said...

He'll get better. Derek Jeter struggled for an entire 2 months before finally picking it up while on the Tampa Yankees.

Liam Gallagher said...

It'll be nice if Murphy becomes a homerun hitting catcher in our system. Then we don't have to go to the free agency market to buy another bat.

Greg Cohen said...

The Yanks are loaded with catchers. Between Montero, Romine, Cervelli, Higashioka, and now Murphy, you would think at least one of them would make it.

Brian Danuff said...

Yeah. We already got one in Montero, now we're pretty much stocked up for the future on slugging catchers.

Brian Danuff said...

I forgot about the other 3. Cervelli is a helluva catcher, can't wait to see him in September.

Greg Cohen said...

Me too, Molina really has been disappointing since he got back.

Brian Danuff said...

He was great defenisvely last year though.

Cervelli will probably be the backup next year. I don't see the Yankees wanting to re-sign Molina or rush Montero.

Liam Gallagher said...

Cervelli is on the 7-day DL. But some of these players could be good for a trade.

Greg Cohen said...

Nah, he just came off the DL, Liam. He went 1-for-3 with Scranton tonight.

Brian Danuff said...

I would keep Cervelli and Murphy if I had to pick. Montero does look like his catcher's career will be short lived - they started to transition him to a DH anyway, right?

Liam Gallagher said...

I would love to see Cervelli become the back up. The guy can hit and he calls some good games and he's also good defensively.
Sorry if I spelled it wrong.

Liam Gallagher said...

Great, then Cervelli comes up in Sept.

Greg Cohen said...

He was playing a little bit of DH and catcher before hitting the DL.

Brian Danuff said...

He and CC worked well together which I really liked. I think he did with A.J. too.

Greg Cohen said...

Yup, he'll definitely get called up in Sept.

Greg Cohen said...

This kid Feliz is nasty.

Liam Gallagher said...

Miranda also is swinging a nice bat. Another Sept. call up.

Brian Danuff said...

Yeah. Almost like Joba Chamberlain, only he's thinner. (no offense Joba)

Liam Gallagher said...

Feliz is nasty Greg. He's most likely a future closer right there.

Anonymous said...

Greg I'd hold off on the playoff posts nothing is certain in this division and our pitching hasn't looked good at all lately

Liam Gallagher said...

I would like to have Miranda as a bench player next year. He'll be great in the lineup when Tex needs a day off.

Greg Cohen said...

What playoff posts? What are you talking about?

Brian Danuff said...

Here's who I believe we'll see in September:

C - Francisco Cervelli

1B - Juan Miranda

OF - Austin Jackson, Shelley Duncan, John Rodriguez,

P - Anthony Claggett, Mark Melancon, Ian Kennedy

What do you think?

Greg Cohen said...

Kennedy won't be up. He's not going to pitch until the Arizona Fall League. But besides that I think your dead on.

Greg Cohen said...

Mike Dunn and Zach Kroenke will probably get called up, maybe even Edwar Ramirez and Jonathan Albaladejo.

Brian Danuff said...

Yeah I thought it was a long shot anyway. Thanks.

Brian Danuff said...

Oh yeah. Forgot about them.

Wait, wasn't Mike Dunn signed in the offseason as an amatuer or something? I guess he moved through the minors quickly.

Brian Danuff said...

Alright. Going to excersise a bit. Do some push ups, sit ups, etc.

Be back in a few.

YB

Liam Gallagher said...

Here's my bench for next season:

Cervelli
Miranda
Pena
Jackson/Gardner/Melky man.

Liam Gallagher said...

See ya YB.

Greg Cohen said...

Nah he was drafted in 2004.and spent most of the year with Trenton, but now he's up at Triple-A.

Greg Cohen said...

Later YB.

Brian Danuff said...

Looks pretty good. I think they'll have an Matt Stairs-type guy on there as well, just don't know who.

Liam Gallagher said...

Hinske maybe.

Liam Gallagher said...

I wonder how Austin Jackson will be like in the Majors? I hope not another Melky. And I hope Melky gets better over the years. I really like him.

Greg Cohen said...

A lot depends on his ability to grow as a hitter. He strikes out too much, but if he can learn to cut those down he should be a very solid all around player. The power isn't there yet, but that will come as he gets older.

Liam Gallagher said...

I think he'll be a 20 homerun hitter once he gets stronger.

Greg Cohen said...

It's very possible.

Liam Gallagher said...

Whats the score? I'm to lazy to walk over to my room and look.

Margo said...

This game has the making of a potential Yankee Classic, come on Jorge

Greg Cohen said...

It's 10-6 with the bases loaded and nobody out in the ninth with Posada at the plate.

Liam Gallagher said...

Alright. Hopefully he won't get into a double play.

Greg Cohen said...

Yea, that's what I'm worried about too.

Margo said...

Here we go, come on Cano

Greg Cohen said...

10-7 on an infield single by Posada.. winning run at the dish. Holy cow.

Jon Bachrach said...

Greg if the yanks win this one, next time we go to the stadium the lobels sandwiches are on me

Margo said...

Let's go baby!!!! We are winning this game

Greg Cohen said...

10-9 now after Cano's two-run single..... STILL NOBODY OUT.... WOW... LET'S DO THIS FELLAS!

Greg Cohen said...

Hahahaha ok Jon.

Liam Gallagher said...

If I really left a half hour ago I wouldn't be watching the game anyway. I would be playing MLB 09.

Jon Bachrach said...

Uh oh, Swisher is up

Liam Gallagher said...

LET"S GO YANKEES!

Greg Cohen said...

I don't care what happens, this team deserves a ton of credit for fighting like this.

Mario said...

nice hit by cano, look what happens when u go the other way, well the guy is rattled now, 3 outs to score at least 1 run, come on baby

Margo said...

Why is Swisher bunting there?

Greg Cohen said...

Damn Swisher, gotta get that bunt down... That's a big out for Texas.

Mario said...

come on melky, anything but DP

Mario said...

damit, u gotta be kidding me, SOB

Greg Cohen said...

Ahhhh tough break. Game over, Texas wins 10-9. The bunt killed the inning.

Margo said...

Damn it!!!!!!!!

crossfire said...

Shit!

Liam Gallagher said...

Come on Melky. Make it your forth walk off this year.

Jon Bachrach said...

wtf that was fast jeter was on deck too

crossfire said...

Swisher has to get that bunt down.

Liam Gallagher said...

I'm a slow typer. NOOOOOOOO! yankees lose.

Jon Bachrach said...

The bunt killed the inning...

Anonymous said...

Girardi blew that game. No reason for Swisher to bunt there. He has a good eye and could have drawn a walk. Plus, he's not great at bunting. And, the Yankees were hot. He should have let Swisher swing away and see what happens, not tighten up and play for tie.

It was a terrible bunt by Swisher but really dumb managain IMO.

Liam Gallagher said...

It really was.

Jon Bachrach said...

I agree with Anon act...

Greg Cohen said...

I agree, I would have had Swisher swing away, but great effort. Melky hit the ball right on the nose. Don't really know where Hairston was going. He needs to know where the short stop is on that play and stay close to the bag on any kind of liner.

JoeV said...

Tough game to lose. I hope this cools off how "special" Joba is. He has a long way to go to be a consistent starter. Good thing Pettitte is coming on strong, as the backend of the rotation is pretty weak.

Liam Gallagher said...

Night guys. See ya later.

Brian Danuff said...

Well, I think Greg said it best. you gotta give them a load of credit for fighting back. If it weren't for Swisher's bunt, someone would have had Reddi Whip in their face by now.

Brian Danuff said...

6.5 game lead. No need to sweat.

Greg Cohen said...

6 games, but still.

If the lead drops to three or four then you can begin to worry.

Brian Danuff said...

Yeah. Let's not have that happen then. We need to win the next 2 games to get back on track.

Brian Danuff said...

Night guys. Go Yanks!

Anonymous said...

There was nothing positive to come from Swisher bunting. He may move runners over BUT he gave up an out for no reason. He should have let him hit. If Swisher bunts them over then there still is a DP on Cabrera's hit.

The worse part is the Yankee hitters were hot and we had the momentum. A bunt, even a successful one, kills the rally. The decision is really inexcusable.

The execution is also inexcusable and I seriously dont have much faith in this team in big games still.

Jon Bachrach said...

Hey Greg I knew Michael Kay had the night off cause I saw him in my lobby getting a package as i was getting home...

Greg Cohen said...

There's obviously room for a second guess, but if Swisher swings away and hits a DP everyone is blasting Girardi for not bunting. I probably would have had him swing away, especially after the count went 1-0, but still, it could go either way. One way or another Swisher has to do a better job of getting the bunt down.

Mario said...

Andy & AJ had better pitch there ass'es off next 2 days, & gaudin sucks & is worthless....

Capone said...

Im sick to my stomach...

Greg Cohen said...

Sick to your stomach? Why?

They battled their asses off and just came up short. Joba and Gaudin lost this game. They're still six games up and Texas winning hurts Boston. Like I said earlier, losing tonight isn't the worst thing in the world.

Anonymous said...

If Swisher hits into a DP, the game is not over. We still have a chance. I hate the bunt there with all the momemtum.

And, Joba, Gaudin and Posada, which you forgot to mention cost us the game. This was ANOTHER double digit performance for Posada. Seen enough of them yet? I guess not. What an absolute horrible catcher. 3 consecutive games with 3 different pitchers against different teams and Posada gave up 10+ runs. That is 35 runs in 3 games he has yieded as catcher. Im sorry but that is absolutely 100% unacceptable. Anyone can do that. Anyone!

Capone said...

Very true. Gotta love the way they fought back after being down 5 in the 9th. Most teams would've folded.

Greg Cohen said...

Anon, you lose all credibility every time you mention Posada and blame him for terrible pitching performances. You might as well stop watching baseaball, because you obviously don't understand the game.

Greg Cohen said...

Exactly Capone. I'm angry they lost, but what can you do? If they were tied in the standings and this one put them a game back, then I'd be sick over it.

crossfire said...

Anon is a crybaby whiner. He doesn't know shit about the game but acts like he does. It always makes me laugh because he's the only one that doesn't realize that he is an idiot.

Go back to your mommy's basement moron! LOL

Scott_in_Sacramento said...

Anon,

What is up with all the Posada hatred? Did he nail your wife or something?

Greg Cohen said...

I doubt someone who comes here to bother Yankees fans has any time for a woman.

crossfire said...

maybe an inflatable one.

Mike B. said...

You guys are hilarious!

I was at the game and almost hit the ceiling on the field level when Swisher bunted! I almost went through the ceiling when he bunted the ball staright up into the air. You MUST be swinging away in that situation, especially with a lousy bunter at the plate.

We did come close, though.....

Mike

Karen said...

awww i haven't got to watch the game again, but this is so sad. I hope they get 'em back tomorrow. Go YANKS!!!
