================

We are lucky enough to have a SWB report from BigGuy tonight.
He won't be doing these all the time by when he does I will
post them. Thanks BG for the great contributions.

(Triple-A) Scranton/Wilkes-Barre lost to Durham 4-1 in game 1 of the Governor's Cup finals: Box Score - Recap

The SWB Yanks met the Durham Bulls (Tampa) at Durham in the 1st game of the Governor's Cup Championship. Durham defeated the Yanks 4-1 to take game 1.

PITCHING: Romulo Sanchez got the start for the Yanks. He threw 5 shutout innings vs Gwinnett in the first round. Durham jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning on a walk and 2 singles. Sanchez tossed a perfect 2nd inning, picking up 2 strikeouts. In the 3rd, Sanchez struck out the first 2 batters before giving up a walk and stolen base, but got the final out on a flyout. Sanchez threw a perfect 4th, picking up 2 more K's. Another perfect inning for Sanchez in the 5th, as he picked up another strikeout to give him 8. In the 6th, a bunt single with 2 errors on the play, and a wild pitch put a runner at 3rd. The run scored on a rbi single to give Durham a 2-0 lead. Sanchez was taken out. Tough luck for Sanchez who pitched well. Sanchez' line: 5.0 IP, 3 runs , 4 hits, 8 K--2 walks.

Zach Kroenke relieved Sanchez in the 6th with nobody out. He gave up a groundrule double, then intentional walk. A 2-rbi single scored 2 more runs to open the Durham lead to 4-0.

Jose Valdez came on to pitch perfect 7th and 8th innings with 2 strikeouts.

OFFENSE: Jeremy Hellickson got the start for Durham he was 2-0 vs the Yanks during the regular season and continued his dominance in this game. Hellickson retired the first 5 batters he faced, 3 on strikeouts, before John Rodriguez had an infield single in the 2nd. Kevin Russo had a 2-out single in the 3rd, but was thrown out stealing. In the 4th, the Yanks wasted a leadoff single by Colin Curtis and walk by Austin Jackson. Reegie Corona had a 1-out double in the 5th, but once again the Yanks couldn't score. The Yanks finally broke thru off Hellickson in the 7th when Rodriguez hit a solo homer to cut Durham's lead to 4-1. In the 9th, 1 out walks to Austin Jackson and Juan Miranda brought the tying run to the plate in Rodriguez who homered earlier, but he struck out to end the game and give Durham the 4-1 win.
