News & Notes
- The Yanks are 42-15 since the All-Star break. They've also won 55 of their last 75, and at 93-52 they have the best record in all of baseball. They currently lead Boston by 7.5 games in the AL East. They also lead the Angels by 6 games for the best record in baseball. Their magic number to clinch the AL East is 12.
- At 51-22 the Yankees are a tied with Boston for the best home record in baseball.
- In four starts against the Blue Jays in his career, Sergio Mitre is 1-2 with a 6.53 ERA. Three of those starts came this year, and in those he's 0-2, with a 9.88 ERA.
- Roy Halladay has faced the Yankees 36 times in his career, 34 as a starter, and is 17-6 with a 2.83 ERA. In 19 games (17 starts) in the Bronx he's 7-4, with a 3.19 ERA.
In four starts against the Yanks this season he's 2-1, with a 2.65 ERA and 3 complete games. Last time out he held the Yankees to 1 hit and 3 walks in a complete game shutout in Toronto.
- Mariano Rivera has converted 40-of-41 save opportunities this season. He's also converted 35 straight saves which is the longest such streak in the Majors, and the longest of Mo's hall of fame career. He's allowed just one earned run over his last 32 innings pitched. He's also two strikeouts away from 1000 for his career.
- The Yankees a 11-5 against the Blue Jays this year.
- Andy Pettitte's start tomorrow will be skipped due to shoulder fatigue. Joe Girardi told Peter Abraham that he doesn't think this is anything serious and a little rest is all Andy needs. Here's some more from Peter:
Pettitte said the ache in his shoulder contributed to his poor start on Friday when he lasted only five innings and walked three. But he threw a bullpen yesterday and it felt fine.I wouldn't be too worried about this.
He will not throw again until Friday. So he’ll have nine days between starts and two days completely off.
- I never watch MTV, mainly because they've contributed more to the downfall of music than anything in recent history. However, I found this over on a message board and thought it was pretty cool. During Jay-Z's performance at the VMA's he had this panoramic image of New Yankee Staidum in the background.
Stick around and discuss the game
as it happens in the comments section.

When I was younger and popular music in this country was still decent, like in the early 90's (especially hip-hop) it was OK.
Posada is catching? Looks like this will be a loss.
Thanks Pointless.
Pointless Cohen? Posada has sucked all year, and I have no clue why Gardner is playing. He stinks as a hitter. This team will go no where.
Yes Pointless. Posada has had a fine year and only an idiot would think otherwise.
By the way, Anon, I think I know who you are. But I'll never tell.
An idiot would say that Posada is fine. What a gay thing to say.
Oh ya, who?
Hitler? OH, way to figure that out.
Nope, someone from Boston University.
HAHAHAHAHA, WRONG!
BTW, that picture sucks.
So does whatever team you root for. Your life must suck too, if you spend you nights trying to upset Yankees fans.
Nope, my team will kick your ass.
You just keep filling that weak brain of yours with pipe dreams. Whatever makes you sleep at night.
I bet you dream about Posada sense you think he's fine.
Did you mean "since"?
no
Anon, how many times are you going to embarrass yourself on this site? Seriously, everyone here must think you are the biggest moron in the world.
Steven, the guy is as big of a loser as they come. Poor guy must not have many friends and has to lash out to get attention. It's really sad actually.
Hey Greg, and Steven.
And hello Mr. Jack Woods. Thats right. Jack Woods.
Crap
Hey Liam, so he is your idiot class mate?
So Jack, now that you've been outed. Care to get the hell out of here or do I have to get your address from Liam?
Yes. :(
IDK his address Greg.
Thank your only friend (can't believe he has a friend) David.
DAMN IT!
Hey?
Get outta here NOW Jack.
lol so the one friend he actually has stabbed him in the back? LOL how fitting.
Where did ya go Captain?
I know, but out of all the people in the world it was him.
Who does he root for?
Boston. I've yelled at him before, he's scared now.
lol tool... alright I gotta go eat some dinner. I'll be back during the game.
Ya right, you don't know wer I live and my phone. Retards.
See ya Greg.
Since we found out Jack was Hitler last night, it wasn't a surprise we found out he's anon as well.
Hopefully now that we know who he is, he'll stop coming on the site.
Anyway, how are you guys on this fine evening?
Liam probably does Jack. He's in your class, duh!
Greg, tonight's game is on MY9, not YES.
Is Anon's middle name "Off"?
Probably CF. What's up?
Your saying that I do Jack YB?
Of course!
No, I mean since he's in your class you probably know his cell and what not.
There's not capital B dickhead!
Oh.
Whats up anyway YB?
Jack go away.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! ha
Nothing. Need to get to my homework. I've been helping my little brother with his.
YHow's it going YB? Hello all.
I really want the Yanks to beat Halliday since he sucked against the sox but pitched great against us. I hope we crush him tonight!
I'm good. Yeah I hope we crush Doc tonight.
Me too.
I need to do my homework too.
Go do thAt then bitch.
Jack, I think it's okay to use your real name. We all know who you really are.
This you in this video Jack.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wL_PV9AbFX0
Ok then.
Like my new name guys?
I like boys, I like boys, la la la la la...
I'm Yankeeboy98 and i'm Bush in the video that Liam showed me.
I like nuts.
wow Jack.
Jack, calm down. There's no reason to get mad now that we know who you are.
Poor Jack. He's a loser.
Just like the video that I shared with you.
shutup! I love him.
Jack I hate to brake it to ya but YOUR BUTT STINKS!
hahahahahahaha.
See ya YB.
Later. I got to get to my homework so I'm going too.
Wow what a mess. Liam, I want you to torture this kid all year in school.
Fine by me.
Nice, 2-0 Yanks over Halladay.
How you doing tonight Greg?
I'm good, how about yourself?
Good.
Pretty good. Whenever the Yanks are winning I'm in a good mood.
God I can't wait for when we clinch. You know we're only 7 games away from a playoff berth?
Nice, no I didn't know that. I just hope they wait until clinching the division to pop champagne.
Durden, why'd you delete your comments?
I can't believe it either YB.
I really gotta do my homework.
Have a good night guys.
Night Liam.... Damn it... Tie game.
And the happy mood is gone. 2-2 as Mitre gives up a 2-run blast to Travis Snider.
Same here. I'm almost done, about 2 more pages.
Crap. Home run lind, 3-2 Jays. Nice job Meat Tray.
And now 3-2 Jays cause Mitre blows.
I'm wicked siked to be here, you guys ready to rent some cars?
Mitre really aggravates me. You give him a lead and he gives it right back. Fuck
At the game tonight guys, why does Mitre BLOW
incase your wondering how i commented, im on my CrackBerry.
He's leaving his pitches up.
well if damon hasn't hit into a rallying killing possible big inning killing double play,
By the way, enjoy the game Durden.
And people (notably on the LoHud Yankees blog) seriously believe this guy is going to be part of the rotation next season? He gives up a run virtually every inning. By the way, anyone else sick of the Blue Jays, who lay down and die again virtually every other team bar the Yanks?
even though theyre losing theres the smell of comeback in the air, you watch and see.
SICK JEETS!
I hope so. I certainly won't argue with optimism.
its been murder watching the homeruns come at us in the main in RF.
Tha's where you're sitting Durden?
yea its main 205 row 4
well ima get back to the game and get some more beer, and a burger, GO YANKS!
Cool. I sat in, 203 row 3 on July 23rd, pretty good seats. Teix hit a blast that went right over our heads.
At least Halladay's pitch count is high so the Jays will have to go to their pen soon.
Mitre is about to put this game out of reach.
The only smell in the air is Mitre...he stinks.
Why Girardi would even allow him to last to this point is beyond me. As soon as Overbay reached Mitre should have been out of the game.
Oh lord... Edwar? REALLY?!?!
This is a much better spot for Albaladejo. Ramirez can't pitch in this league.
Another dump game I'm afraid. How the Sox doing?
They're playing the Angels, so of course they're winning. My concern with that game is Dice-K came back and pitched well. If he can regain form they have they just got that much tougher for the playoffs.
Wow, Ramirez actually kept them in the game.... He better not pitch a second inning.
7-2, we still got a shot. Roy should be done after this inning, so we have a good chance to rally against their bullpen in the 7th, 8th, or 9th.
Does Posada know how to catch? He purposely puts himself in the wrong position to miss the tag. He continually does that. He either gets way up in front of the plate so he has to run back to make a tag or he gets too far behind the plate so he has to run up to tag. We have been watching this garbage for years.
Posada is simple one of the worst catchers of all time. He's absolutely clueless and chicken shit to tag people out. If he gets in position, which is rarely, he drops the ball. Lawhozaher!
Just as well we don't HAVE to win these games with Mitre and Gaudin pitching back-to-back but we are leaving the door slightly ajar for a Red Sox comeback. Is it too soon to panic?!?!
Yes Bruce, way too soon.
Anon or Jack, you are simply the worst commenter of all time. Congrats.
Bruceb,
It is kinda early to panic. Gaudin may not pitch well tomorrow, but that's why we have an explosive offense to back him up. He could allow 4 or 5 runs but we could still win the game.
Jack should be the goat of the blog.
Come back Bombko, all is forgiven.
Wow what happened to this game?
Ya Jack, shut up and go away.
I know. It seems every player that we let go turns out to be a solid player on another team.
I finished most of my homework. The rest is due Friday.
Is this going to be Holliday's last inning? (I have it on gamecast). I think they have a chance if Holliday doesn't come back out. 112 pitches seems about enough to pull him.
Halladay does look like he could leave soon.
I'm effing sick of the sight of Halliday. Why didn't the Mets pick him up? lol
ha.
Mind you, did you see the way the Jays lost the lead in the bottom of the 9th last night? Just need to put them under a bit of pressure.
Yeah.
is Melancon part of Girardi's "only when losing" bullpen?
Its Oakland. Not New York. Tomko simply couldnt hack it here, just b/c of how he's performing there doesn't mean he'll do it here.
Probably.
Enjoying the game Durden?
this is the worst game I attended all year. my god what bullpen choices by girardi.
not at all atm.
Sorry to hear that. I only go once a year. I went when Seattle came into town.
technically speaking if Jorge bumped into the batter wouldn't that be batters interference bc he was stepping out of the box?
If I bump into Sergio Mitre in a dark street tonight there'll be trouble!
Texas are losing so at least we should be okay for the wild card.
man i wish there were toronto fans here to slug, that fight fired me up, haha.
Yeah. That was the biggest brawl I've seen since A-Rod and Varitek went at it back in '03. That fight also included Pedro Martinez shoving Don Zimmer to the ground.
we got a good view of girardi getting in the middle of it, who came out the worst looking?
Carlson, a big part of his head is swollen. Joe's left eye is also a bit swollen.
and with that i think we're leaving, damon failed us.
for all you who want DAMON back, please stop and think before that happens, if we go into next season with him in the outfield, let alone he's slumping pretty bad now...
Everyone calm down, did anyone really think they were going to win tonight? Mitre vs. Halladay? Come on people. And Mario, Damon has been great all year. Sometimes you don't come through, that's baseball.
By the way, nice brawl. As long as nobody got hurt, that is.
mario if we resign damon he'll mostly DH. Matsui and Nady are coming off the books. Damon said he wants to come back and he knows that he'll need to take a pay cut. i dont see the yankees getting matt holliday or jason bay; both want to stay where they are. so Damon might be the only choice they have.
That was just plain silly. Now Posada will probably get a five-game suspension for his part in the brawl. All we did tonight was hurt ourselves.
As long as nobody got hurt I like brawls. I think they bring teams closer together. It did that for the Sox who have gone 22-10 after their brawl with the Tigers. Prior to that game they were 8-14 in their last 22.
@ Greg I agree its brings them closer together. Its Carlson own fault was standing right next to the plate. He knew Posada was mad he was almost asking for it.
They lost 3 out of the last 5 vs. Toronto. Toront?! Toronto stinks and everyone beats them. What a joke this team has become. And,now only 5 down in the loss column to the Red Sux. There is no way this team wins a playoff series. NO WAY.
Anon doesn't have any respect even for himself. That's just sad.
Mitre should not even be allowed near a baseball. This guy's as bad as Doyle Alexander was when he pitched for the Yanks. Alexander always looked like he was throwing batting practice, and so does Mitre. Surely he won't get to pitch in the playoffs....
I get the impression Girardi thinks that we can afford to lose certain games. Well, to me, you have to feel that you MUST win every game. Oh well....
Jolly bad show, I'd say.
Mike
